Monday's pets on furniture

If you'd like to send us photos to include in next week's "pets on furniture" post, please ensure your photos follow our basic rules: First, the pet must be on a piece of furniture. And said piece of furniture must be clearly visible in the photo, so both pet and furniture takes center stage. (Think of it more of a photo of a great piece of furniture...and your pet happens to be sitting on it). And second, the photo must be of decent quality. For example, if it's REALLY dark or fuzzy (camera phone) then it may not make the cut. Thanks!

"My architect friends' cat, Jane:"

"Desire to Inspire is a new find for me- and I am thoroughly enjoying perusing your archives! I'm especially enamored with the Pets on Furniture posts. My little Matilda always seems to be posing herself on our furniture- finally, her efforts can be appreciated by all.
Here is Tildy-Cat enjoying a private moment inside my linen cabinet. Why? She's a cat-she defies logic.
Matilda enjoys a good sprawl across the velvet cushions of my dining chairs.
"
- Elizabeth

And here she is again, looking rather imperious on the arm of the sofa- her favorite perch for monitoring our human activities.

"I love your pets on furniture feature and wanted to submit a picture of my cat Harvey on my new (to me) kofod larsen rocker for consideration. He loves everything I bring home and has to sleep on it all (including paper bags). Lucky for him, I'm constantly thrifting and bringing new things home for him to sniff out and claim as his own! I have tons of pictures of the things I find (many featuring Harvey) on my blog."
- Alison

"I'd like to submit these pictures for your Monday's Pets of Furniture. This is my dog Rex who likes to chill out on any piece of furniture that's big and comfortable."
- Jirard

"Olá estou enviando fotos dos meu gatos Dunga e Sofia.
Dunga tem 11 anos, adotei de um vizinho que o maltratava e Sofia 4 anos, entrou dentro do carro, bem filhotinho e ficamos com ela, são as paixões da minha vida.
Moramos em Porto Alegre, no sul do Brasil.
"
- Carmem

"I send you two photos of my cat Süti. Her name means Cookie : ) I found her for 10 years, it was a very cold winter night... Süti haven't got her own place, she possesses the whole house. But she prefers sunny places, as you can see."
- Anna (Hungary)

"Here is a picture of our 5 month old great dane cross bull mastiff puppy called Raffi. She is so sneaky and knows she is not meant to go on the couch but she gets on there so quickly and gets comfy before you get a chance to say anything to her."
- Stephanie (Queensland)

"Jealousy broke out at our house after Pepper’s inclusion in your Pets on Furniture series. You see- Pepper isn’t the only pet at our house. SO- for your consideration- here is our pesky little 9yr old chinchilla Skitchman Boo Radley (aka: the boo). Here he is surveying ‘his’ new couch and side table, and gracing us all with the presence of his beautiful fur."
- Tess

"The orange-white cat is Artos, he is a rescued cat from the cat-shelter I volunteer for. This is his new favorite spot, and he loves that Missoni-esque blanket to death. He is sleeping on a mid-century day bed, which also is a rescue from the curb! I had new upholstery made in grey felt. The little stool right next to it was recovered from my parent’s house and has a little cowhide top. The toy-horse is from Sweden."
- Astrid

"Rascal (a Siberian Husky, just without the normal markings) fits his name. Any type of furniture we put in the backyard becomes his throne. Here is King Rascal looking over his domain."
- Katherine

"This is my boyfriend's sister and her husband's yellow lab, Barkley. These pictures were taken when he was just a puppy and he loved to sleep in and on the furniture in funny positions! He's about ten times that size now, so no more sleeping on the coffee table! (I know it breaks the rules, so I was hesitant to send it but I LOVE pets on furniture. It MAKES my Mondays and I love Barkley so I went ahead and sent them!)"
- Angela

"I came across the "Pets On Furniture" post in your blog, and I thought you might enjoy pictures of Otis, my cat. At the time of this photo I had just recently bought this red leather recliner. I had held off in buying it for quite some time, worried that the cats would claw it to death. They haven't. In fact, they hardly payed it any attention..... until one day I found Otis sitting like a king in my red leather chair! He looked like he knew he got caught, and then his paw went up to his mouth in a gesture as if to say, "Uh-Oh!". I managed to capture both expressions."
- Heidi

"Here are some pictures of our cat Carlyle on our couch and on the kitchen table and on my husbands guitar amps! She sleeps on these amps every night! She loves to lay on or get into things she's not suppose to! We love her! (sorry these are iphone pics. I hope they can still be used!)"
- Audrey

"Yvonne's money saving interior design tip: Get an inexpensive chair you like and upscale it with a cat. This is a chair I picked up at the Salvation Army for less than $10. It's a cool looking chair, very retro with the "wicker" arms. I love the chair, but I have to admit that it's seen better days. Still, whenever Pidget lies in it, the chair looks like a throne!"
- Yvonne

"Today, I thought I'd send you a picture of my little Machy doing what he does best- sleeping! He usually sits on that ottoman all day looking out the window {and barking} at everyone that walks by. I guess this day in particular he was tired, lol. ENJOY!"

"I found my dog, Annabelle, while she was wandering the side of the road. Annabelle was in horrible shape that day-with visible ribs, a uterine infection and an eye in a state of proptosis. Yet, in spite of her condition, my petite white pitt bull remained friendly and sweet. Love struck, I picked her up and brought her straight to a vet-where she underwent quite a lot of medical care. When she finally made it back to my apartment a few days later, the first thing my former street dog did was hop up on the couch, a pretty big feat for a dog with stitches in its belly-that was about 5 years ago. Though not allowed on the couch any more, I had to snap this picture when I caught Annabelle napping. See-the lady in the picture on the wall behind Annabelle? That lady already knew my Annabelle was in trouble, but who can stay mad at a dog who is permanently winking!"
- Claire

"I would like to submit 3 pix for next week. My cats are Daisy and Zelda and they are always on the furniture - on the kitchen table after a bug, Zelda making herself comfortable on the sofa, and Daisy on a cedar chest."
- Wen

"I'm a french fan of your website. I send you a photo of my little cat, named Crunch, on a gossip bench we have bought in a fleamarket. Crunch love it because it feels very cosy. I hope you will love this photo."
- Guillaume

"I would like to submit this photo of my cat, Loki. He likes to sit on this old chair that my grandmother gave to me. For some odd reason, he likes to sit up like he is an actual person. It makes me laugh every time I see it. I know you cannot see the whole chair, but the picture is quite cute."
- Candice

"It's fitting that our Basset Hound Oliver's favorite spot to lounge in our Brooklyn apt is on our leather Chesterfield sofa, from ABC Home. He's under the impression that he's descended from canine royalty, and always likes to be treated as such."
- Erica (***Kim's note - Erica should have sent a photo with more furniture showing but she's helping out with some upcoming blog stuff and her dog is too cute so I am making an exception.)

"This is Jasper Bacon, who resides on the left side of the couch. It is the end of another taxing day, full of wrestling, snuggling, eating and batting things around that shouldn't be batted around. His sidekick Rory (resident of right side of the couch) is protective of his privacy and refused to be photographed for this shoot."
- Grace

"I'm sending some photos of my dog, Eb, who likes to nap on the Papasan in the morning. I've been thinking of getting rid of this chair - but now I'm having second thoughts. That's how much I'm in love with this dog!"
- Kelly

"I love your Pets on Furniture posts each week and wanted to submit a picture of my boston, Ziggy, curled up on one of our chairs in the living room. I took the picture at night so the lighting is not very good, but I hope you like it."
- Candi

"It would have been nice if our Vizsla Bob chose the rug in front of the fireplace as his napping spot. No, it was always all about the green couch facing the fireplace. I always said that when the dogs were gone we'd reupholster the green sofa in a lovely white cotton to complete the white look going on in our living room. There would be no more mismatched (protective) blankets and/or ugly slipcovers in site. Our boy Bob passed away this August. And guess what? I'm not pinning so much for the white sofa anymore..."
- Karen

"Here is a picture of our kitten Bodie (named after one of the corner boys on The Wire) sitting on the bed, watching me while I get ready for work. As she hasn't been outside yet I think she particularly enjoys the wallpaper. Here's another picture of her on her favourite chair (sorry about the unsightly plugs)."
- Ellen

"My cousin Ayşe took some pictures of her dear dog, Kont (9)."
- Işıl (Istanbul)

"I am attaching a picture of my darling dog, Vivi, for your consideration if you do another dog blog. She is sitting on a chair in our family room. She was quite young then and now she is two and the most precious thing! Now that I am an empty nester, she is everything to me."
- Leigh

"my husband and i live in vegas and are design junkies and dog fanatics. my husband and i have a wine bar in nyc called "clo" dedicated to all things wine and design. read your blog daily, and have always been meaning to submit our 4 doggies for pets on furniture, but keep forgetting. finally remembered before monday this week, so here is the whole crew!
this is dorian, our 185 lb great dane "sitting" on our ligne roset pop chair.
"
- Brook

"Here's my Bella on my horrible ratty old student-era couch. I do like the fabric I use as a cover, but I am SO MUCH looking forward to getting rid of this thing and buying something more beautiful to take its place! I'm moving to Tasmania soon so rest assured the couch will NOT be coming with me."
- Liz

Some of you may have read my recent post about the 2 stray cats I had to have put down in the past week, and the one I gained. Edgar (formerly Eleanor - turns out a neutered male can look an awful lot like a female) came back from the vets on Thursday with a reasonable bill of health. He is very skinny (verging on emaciation) so I am trying to fatten him up, he has some rotting teeth, and he has kidney issues but is on meds for that so we'll see in a couple weeks how it goes. He is apparently between 9-13 years old so I am very happy that should his kidney problems go away or become manageable, he will be able to live the rest of his life indoors in a loving home (hopefully not in mine, I already have 6!). He has been living on my Ikea hacked changetable/cat shelving since being back from the vets (he doesn't seem too amused by all the other cats) so I have no photos of him on anything but the shelving.

Monday's pets on furniture

Happy Thanksgiving to all my fellow Canadians!

If you'd like to send us photos to include in next week's "pets on furniture" post, please ensure your photos follow our basic rules: First, the pet must be on a piece of furniture. And said piece of furniture must be clearly visible in the photo, so both pet and furniture takes centre stage. (Think of it more of a photo of a great piece of furniture...and your pet happens to be sitting on it). And second, the photo must be of decent quality. For example, if it's REALLY dark or fuzzy (camera phone) then it may not make the cut. Thanks!

"Attached is a picture I thought I might send your way. This is our new kitten, Finn, and he seems particularly fond of our dining room chairs. Hope you like it!"
- Adriane

"This is Solomon pondering the meaning of it all from the arm of my sofa. It's been dubbed "Doily Sofa" after my desperate attempt to repair a week's worth of sudden and obsessive claw sharpening, (his, not mine). You do kind of question things in general while sitting on the floor sewing tea-stained doilies to a couch. But it did work, Solomon never scratched it again. And in the meantime, it's opened up an entire doily universe to me. I had no idea how many people out there have been repurposing all those little crocheted snowflakes."
- Amy

"This is Bosco, in a moment of actually being a good girl for once. She is on our well worn, but still beloved leather couch."
- Rachel

"Just in time for Halloween. My halloween cat on his pumpkin chair. We found the chair at a consignment shop. Matches Big Charlie perfectly. At least that's what he thinks."
- Rachael

"...so i'm sending in my sweet puppy, apple. she's 5 but still acts like a puppy, forever and ever i hope. she follows me everywhere i go. that is, unless she's sitting on that couch. then i'm not sure that she cares where i am at all. the couch is really only allowed for special occasions now because i think she might love it just as much (if not more) than me. :-)"
-Amanda

"Our dog Gertrude (Gertie) is featured in this photo. She is our fun loving miniature schnauzer who gets away with being bad sometimes because she is so cute. In this picture I caught her one morning sun-bathing on the couch."
- Kristin

"Submitted for your approval, 2 pics of my dear cat, Mister Boots doing what he loves to do best (besides prowl and hunt). He enjoys a rather idyllic lifestyle."
- MV

"Here's a photo of Boondock in my daughter's mirrored chest in her Birmingham, AL loft. Boondock was rescued from the Birmingham Animal Shelter. My daughter picked him out because he was the ugliest cat there and she thought he had little chance of being rescued. As you can see, he turned out to be beautiful with a little tender loving care!"

Here is another photo of Boondock. The previous photo that I sent had a bad flash glare. I thought this one might be better. He loved hanging out in her loft in Birmingham and has turned into a beautiful, spoiled cat! Plus he has really cool orange eyes!
- Kathi

"For inclusion in your pets on furniture series. Here's my rescue dog, Midge, enjoying a nap...err, being irritated that I woke her up from her nap to snap a photo of her... on a too small for her Victorian chair."
- Libby

"I am submitting photos of my cats for your pets on furniture series (all formerly Marrakech street cats). I know the last two don't really fit but don't want any jealousies! The first two photos were taken by a Swedish photographer called Katerina Malmstrom."
- Marilyn

"Here are two photos of our cat Marty-Pants sitting on a 60s mustard footstool, in front of a teal mid century clam chair. Thanks for considering it for your "pets on furniture" post, which I am very much enjoying."
- Melly

"I know the piece of furniture it's not clearly visible, but I could not fail to send this photo of my cat Amelie, she is 17 months old now, but in this photo she was just about seven, and this big chair in our office is one of her favourite spots.Hope you enjoy it!"
- Catarina
***note: although this photo does break the rules, I could not resist.

I'd like to dedicate this post to Seymour, one the strays I've been feeding for over a year. Seymour had serious eye problems (they were very goopy) and I decided I had better get him to the vets before winter came (Friends of Abandoned Pets, a local rescue organization, agreed to help with costs). He went in on Wednesday and the news was very grim. He had FIV, or AIDS in cats, and a very severe case. This would make it impossible for him to be adopted and he would not live a full life, so we decided to have him put down. He was such a sweetie, and really good-natured, so it was really hard knowing he would not have the life he deserved. (I must also point out that Seymour was owned by a complete asshole down the street who didn't give a damn about his cats. I learned a couple days ago that he was recently evicted. 18 cats were found in his home, and 3 dead ones. Lesson to be learned here - if you can't be responsible for pets then DO NOT HAVE THEM).

That was a very very sad day for me, but the next day something magical happened. A "feral" cat I've been feeding for a few months who never let me get more than 20 feet from it, suddenly let me pet her (yep, seems she's a female, so I've named her Eleanor), and it turns out she's a big baby and loves cuddling. She's locked up in my bathroom right now (it's REALLY cold out) and FOAP has agreed to get her in to see a vet as well. If the vet visit goes well I will be responsible for finding Eleanor a new home.

This story better have a happy ending.

"This is a photo of Bea. She is my boyfriend's impossibly haughty miniature dachshund. I suppose when you are that beautiful, you can get a way with being haughty. She really has the funniest personality. When she comes over, she acts like she is literally the queen of the house. She sniffs around the apt (checking out her realm?) and then sets herself down on her throne. If anyone else tries to sit in the chair, she will stare them down until they move. Here's one more showing her staring technique. Obviously, she's queen for a reason."
- Steffan

"I had two share pictures of my two dogs on their favorite pieces of furniture. This first one is Klaus, our white schnauzer, on his favorite nap chair ( vintage buy still waiting for refurbishment). The second is Olivia, our rescued mixed dog something between daschund and chihuahua), sitting in on a bench my grandmother gave me. She loves the colorful pillows around her although she especially likes gnawing on their corners."
- Georgia

"Here's our cat, Hammy, and our dog, Grover, hanging out on their favorite spot - the back of the couch! They both fight for that one spot."
- Chelsey

"I'd love to submit this photo of our cat Daisy lurking about on the shelves. It's one of her favourite spots. It combines her love of climbing with her love of keeping an eye on us - the higher the vantage point the better!"
- Sam

"This is my puppy Tessa. Okay so she's hardly a puppy anymore, she's about 14 months old, but she'll always be my baby! She likes to spend her days 'supervising' me from atop the couch."
- Emma

"Here's a few pics of my cat Murphy in her favorite spot. It's a bit of a problem when we want to use the record player, but way too adorable to make her get down."
- Heather

"I am sending you a photograph of my Cockapoo, Amber, for your consideration for the "Pets on Furniture" series."
- Louise

"I wanted to attach a photo of my bunnies Pom Pom and Roxy, who know a comfy piece of furniture when they see it. Here they are laying claim to my father's favorite chairs over holiday."
- Sarah

"Here are a couple fotos of Geisha, my darling girl on a couple of lounging spots in the house. She rather enjoys anything that is made up (the bed) or super comfy (the sofa, any overstuffed chair..has to have our luxe cashmere throw on it though...) She's definitely a lil' diva but she can catch the little lizards here in Florida with the best of them. My little princess Tomboy. :)"
- Dree

"Would love to submit this picture of my dog "Bernie" for "pets on furniture" Monday. Although not the nicest piece of furniture in my home, the ultra comfy Lazy Boy recliner is a favorite of both of the men in my family, Bernie and my hubby Joe."
- Lisa (**Editor's Note: Although not quite following rule #1, if I had a La-Z-Boy I too wouldn't want it displayed in a photo.)

A co-worker of mine, Irina, recently purchased an African Pygmy hedgehog and at my request she managed to get a clear photo of it sitting on one of her dining chairs. (She had a hard time getting it to stay still). Thanks Irina!

I had to add one from my home. It's about 9:30 pm Sunday night and as I'm getting this post written up one of my cats, Cheeks, keeps trying to climb into my lap. He really likes my desk chair - an Eames upholstered armchair - and I knew he would not leave me alone until I gave up the freaking chair for him. I moved the chair over for him and grabbed my other Eames shell chair for me to use while I finished this post up. Phoebe also loves that chair. I recently threw a piece of batik fabric over it because I am sick of all the fur, and being the pain in my arse that she is, she jumped up next to Cheeks and dug under the fabric to lie down. And this is what is next to me while I type this.

"As and avid reader of your blog, I wanted to submit some pictures of my French Bulldog, Navy. Here he is sitting on the beautifully designed and affordable West Elm overlapping squares arm chair. This is one of his favorite napping spots, especially when the sun it hitting it just so. You can see more pictures of Navy on my blog: www.navybeanonline.blogspot.com."
- Janis

(This is an extra one I had to add because I love this shot - Kim)

"I would love for Junior to be remembered. He is sadly no longer with us - he was a sickly little cat who only made it about 2 years. These are from when he was a baby."
- Sue

"I have attached some photos of my lovely dog Finn hanging out in my sitting room. I think she looks quite regal sitting in my husbands favourite chair."
- Paula (Ireland)

"I'm attaching a photo of 2 of my favorite things: my pup Pepper and my Eames rocker. Conveniently, Pepper enjoys it as much as I do!"
- Tess

"I’m obsessed with your site almost as much as my dogs! Of course not quite, but I do visit everyday and get so much pleasure and inspiration from your pictures. I am a jewelry designer – so everything inspires me. I also keep dreaming of how I will be redecorating. I keep saving your pics for inspiration! Love, Love, Love!!!!"
- Jill (Kim - Do check out her jewelry = GORG!!!!)

"For your consideration, Finn, man about town...
He has a brother, Thomas and for some reason that I still haven't figured out they love to have there photo taken, I have never posed them not that you could every pose a cat) they just seem to have the knack!
"
- Margaret

"I thought I'd send along two shots of my pets on furniture for your series:
1) The first is my dog "Wallace" a corgi-terrier mix lounging on his favourite chair
2) The other image is my Himalayan cat "Gil" trying to figure out what fabric swatch will best match him for his chair.
"
- Deborah Cameron

"This is Opal and her red Ikea chair. Since the day we brought the pair of chairs home Opal has taken over them. She looks so gorgeous on a red background that we let her have them. Opal is a rescue from KittyKind in NYC."
- A&B from NYC

"Here are my best favourite photos about my pets. I hope, you like it!"
- Zyta (Hungary)

...and because I could not resist this photo...

"thought you might find this pretty funny... I added it to my blog the other day."
- Deb

**** I just found out this morning that Jewel, my uncle's golden retriever and a huge part of our family, was put down a couple of days ago. She had a large, painful cyst on her paw that would not go away and kept growing (seen in the photo). I unfortunately don't have one of her on furniture (my uncle would have given us crap for allowing that). We'll miss you Jewel!
