Bricks Amsterdam - part 1

Last week I received an adorable pet photo from James van der Velden, and his email included a link to his design firm called Bricks Amsterdam. I nearly fell off my chair when I took a peek at his portfolio. His style ROCKS. James calls it "timeless eclecticism". I love every bit of it - the neutral colour palette of black, brown, white and tan, the overscale furnishings and accessories, the industrial elements and use of linen. That right there is the recipe for great decor (IMHO). James kindly sent me tons of photos from 3 of his projects which I'll be sharing here today and tomorrow. This one is my favourite, and I believe it is James' own home - a penthouse apartment on the canals of Amsterdam. *SWOON*

A couple eye-catchers

I spotted the following photos on the website of New York design firm Carrier and Company and had to feature them here. I was drawn to the window treatment in the dining room. It's super casual and works so well in a rustic/country setting. And I have such a strong desire to find a really large industrial sink when we rebuild our house. The sink in the bathroom below is SO cool! (Jo blogged this firm back here).

Waterfall factory

Breathtaking. Simply breathtaking. A lake, a waterfall, a 1950s factory refurbished into a minimalist space that reaches out to a wooded wonderland through walls of glass. References to its industrial past are complemented by the sparse interiors but what could be cold is brought to life by that view. Fitout and furnishings are simple. The art graphic and strong. A cool bachelor pad

My brother-in-law Dave is always sending me links to homes that he has spotted on various websites, in the hopes that one day I'd find one worthy of blogging about. Well, I'm finally blogging one. He found the home here, but it was originally featured in New York Magazine. It's the 2100 sq ft Brooklyn bachelor pad of "Blue's Clues" star Steve Burns, designed by Mesh Architectures. I love the industrial feel, the exterior is totally rad, the catwalk on the second floor (inside and out) and the private courtyard. A home worthy of the pages of Dwell mag, if it hasn't already been featured there.
