Casa Al Mar

It's Friday. Must mean that my attention turns to rest and relaxation. Warm sun, soft breeze, high design. A perfect trinity? Modern architecture meets traditional materials at Casa Al Mar in Port Sóller Mallorca. Round up the virtual holiday friends. We are off to lounge by the pool and soak up that view. I just have to find the energy to get that bottle of white from the fridge. Be a sweetie and bring it out for me?

Reader's home - Javier's holiday home in Spain

Back in May of last year I blogged the Spanish home of interior designer and artist Javier Requejo. To my delight he emailed the other day with photos of his holiday home in Ourense, 15 minutes outside Galacia, Spain (where his primary residence is). It has the same rustic charm as his other home but this one is filled with even more of Javier's creativity and colour. And he even has some pets strategically placed in a couple of the following photos which always does it for me.

Rustic idyll

More and more I feel myself drawn to the rustic ... the sophisticated rustic. The beauty of natural materials juxtaposed with contemporary luxury. Texture and minimalism. Solid, firm, permanent. One foot in the past, one in the future. I've featured Spanish firm Minim before and we have had a small glimpse of this Priorat house but when I found architectural photographer Eugeni Pons' portfolio I gasped. There is a richness, a warmth, a touch of humanity in these photos. Simple but luxe, rustic yet modern, it is a complex space. It may seem simple but it's a carefully considered play of opposites. Voids and solids, rough and smooth, past and present and Eugeni's shots capture it perfectly.

Luisa Olazábal

Occasionally I like to blog a designer/stylist/photographer whose style leaves me a bit out of my comfort zone. Luisa Olazábal is an interior designer from Madrid, and her portfolio filled with beautiful spaces does just that. They are classic with a contemporary flair, sophisticated and refined with soothing, muted colour palettes.

Barcelona home ... a tapas of a taste

Welcome to the lovely home of the Barcelona based design duo Australian digital artist George Angles and Spanish painter and designer Blanca Cases. Just a tantalising peek but after the jump you can take a wander through their Barcelona shop Lu Ink where Blanca says "we make the things that we love: paintings, cushions, trays, assorted things made of and on wood, textiles and lots of other cool things for the house." Perhaps if we ask really, really nicely Blanca and George will send us more photos of their house ;)
