Swanwick Ranch

Swanwick Ranch is considered one of the finest luxury oceanfront estates in Canada; a residence that has been featured in professional architectural and design publications around the globe. It is a masterpiece of contemporary architecture that has received national architecture acclaim for design. Custom designed for it’s current owners, the residence is a perfect retreat for families seeking a refuge from the pulse of modern life. It is situated on a majestic 68-acre gently sloping oceanfront property in the rural community of Metchosin, British Columbia with over 1,400 feet of low-bank oceanfront.

One of the social aspects of the design of the home is the ability to interact between spaces quite readily, such that even though the home is very large there are opportunities via balconies and bridges and interconnected spaces to have moments of conversation or eye contact across very large distances, which bring occupants the feeling of being close together even though each may be in their own retreat space.

Something old, something new

I have another Shoot Factory location home in London for you all today. This time it's a wonderful juxtaposition of old and new. A stone house that looks to be about 200 years old filled with modern and mid century furnishings makes for an funky and eclectic space. Love the floors and retro trailer in the yard.

Modern home tour

Maureen of The Inglenook Decor wanted to share with our readers some photos of a home that was featured in the Modern Home Tour in Austin. I love this house - the structure is incredible and the decor is (mostly) modern/mid-century of which I am forever a fan - and how cool that some walls are magnetic! (Photos by Andrew Chan)

P.S. Speaking of modern, 2Modern is having a giveaway NOW on Facebook to win this Blu Dot ottoman!

MidMod bungalow in the UK

Here's the first of 2 mid-century modern homes I will be sharing with you today. This one comes from David and Scott: We're a small creative agency in Berkshire living in a Mid Century bungalow on the development where Truffaut filmed 'Fahrenheit 451' back in 1966 - in fact, our bungalow is of the same design as the one in the film. Though the actual property from the film has been sadly 'renovated' beyond recognition, we've rescued ours from dilapidation and given it a fresh, modern, modernist feel having remodelled it both inside and out ourselves. The bungalow has been a 4 year labour of love — we live and work in it (using Bedroom 4 as our Studio) — it's a light-filled haven and we love it... but we've got itchy feet and would love to apply ourselves to another property and help it to shine as originally intended. We've created a microsite + a full booklet covering the history & provenance of the Development - 'the estate of the future that time forgot' - plus a full description of the property. The transformation is extraordinary. I freaking LOVE IT! It was so awful when they purchased it I had to include some before photos to show all their hard work.

k19studio

It's almost Friday (thank gawd) and I wanted to do a quick post before I hit the sack to welcome a new advertiser to desire to inspire. k19studio is recently established in Germany, with the notion that people can bring original modern artwork into their homes at a fraction of the cost of art found in galleries. Here is a bit of info: Pictures presented by k19studio are the geometric abstract painting executed in the technique of acrylic on canvas or acrylic on aluminum. Attention! It's not printed matter, it's not posters, it's the real original pictures, each of which, the artist makes individually, manually.
On the k19studio site a few themes each with a set of samples and various sizes are presented. You can choose the sample and the size you like. From this sample we will make the picture in the acrylic on canvas or on aluminum technique for you. Each sample is used a limited number of times (max. 5)

Check out some very cool completed works below (the organic geometry line is my favourite):
