Swanwick Ranch
Swanwick Ranch is considered one of the finest luxury oceanfront estates in Canada; a residence that has been featured in professional architectural and design publications around the globe. It is a masterpiece of contemporary architecture that has received national architecture acclaim for design. Custom designed for it’s current owners, the residence is a perfect retreat for families seeking a refuge from the pulse of modern life. It is situated on a majestic 68-acre gently sloping oceanfront property in the rural community of Metchosin, British Columbia with over 1,400 feet of low-bank oceanfront.
One of the social aspects of the design of the home is the ability to interact between spaces quite readily, such that even though the home is very large there are opportunities via balconies and bridges and interconnected spaces to have moments of conversation or eye contact across very large distances, which bring occupants the feeling of being close together even though each may be in their own retreat space.

Wow. Simply amazing.
Too funny to see this place here. It's in my hometown and has created much controversy there apparently. While I think it's interesting at least, my mother got to see it in person and LOATHED it. She said it was the ugliest, coldest "home" she's ever seen. Perhaps these pics (taken on one of the three non-rainy sunny days of the year) make it look a bit less imposing.
i love it. i dream of having some of the details of this space in my own home one day. first on the list, all that light!
Completely amaze!
So wonderful with all these different opinions and tastes! When I see this house at this location my first thought was "what a wonderful house they could have built instead!"
so beautiful. Love the colours. Love the perspective. Love this style. Cool!!!!
wow, its like, its sutch an obvious house, the architectuire is flawless and the style is personal. It makes me feel like, Ive got no words
Looks like something Howard Roark would've designed esp. considering the controversy the property has aroused. I personally love it, but think it needs some more personal touches with regards to the interior.
"AH MAH GAWD" pretty much sums it up! Spectacular. If it sits on 68 acres I wonder why all the controversy. It's not as if there are countless neighbors that have to look at it every day. Life's too short to worry about what everyone else thinks of your home.
awww wow... breath taking! :)
AW MAH GAWD is right! Fabulous find...thanks for sharing.
HILARIOUS!
My dad was a contractor on this job from the time I was... probably 11.
It's not cold or uninviting at all! It doesn't suit it surroundings (farmland and small shacks with plenty of local beach access)
But it is amazing, it feels like you are walking into art, that married nature.
I LOVE this house and have copies of all the magazines it was featured in.
SOOO proud of my Pops!

ps we used to call this house the "boomerang" house. It was the best way to descirbe the shape of the hoime and how it hangs out over the cliff on the far end. (Did you know that's where their boat house is? )
...CONTROVERSY...
It's because the other people out there didn't want increased traffic during construction.
Pollution or garbage left after construction, and wanted to keep it eco-friendly with building materials. (we *do* live on an island, y'know)
Everything down to the last drop of paint is eco-approved, all the glass windows were shipped in their current shapes (impressive if you see how big some of them actuallly are!)
WOW. Still taking in the beauty of these spaces! Simply amazing!
Somehow I bet they don't clean their own windows !
and I just have to ad one other comment....that is a peeping tom's fantasy come true !
I toured the home with the owner back during construction, his love for unique construction and design was very evident. I also played on the property as a kid and always thought it was one of the finest pieces of property in Victoria. The serenity is so much more attractive than beach drive in oak bay.
mt uncle owns it :D xxxx
