MidMod bungalow in the UK

Here's the first of 2 mid-century modern homes I will be sharing with you today. This one comes from David and Scott: We're a small creative agency in Berkshire living in a Mid Century bungalow on the development where Truffaut filmed 'Fahrenheit 451' back in 1966 - in fact, our bungalow is of the same design as the one in the film. Though the actual property from the film has been sadly 'renovated' beyond recognition, we've rescued ours from dilapidation and given it a fresh, modern, modernist feel having remodelled it both inside and out ourselves. The bungalow has been a 4 year labour of love — we live and work in it (using Bedroom 4 as our Studio) — it's a light-filled haven and we love it... but we've got itchy feet and would love to apply ourselves to another property and help it to shine as originally intended. We've created a microsite + a full booklet covering the history & provenance of the Development - 'the estate of the future that time forgot' - plus a full description of the property. The transformation is extraordinary. I freaking LOVE IT! It was so awful when they purchased it I had to include some before photos to show all their hard work.

I am generally not a big fan of Mid Century for my own tastes but this place is stunning and inspirational. Thank You for sharing such an incredible transition and beautifully designed space. I am undergoing my own years long renovation now and this was the punch in the arm that I needed to keep going.

David and Scott, this is beautiful! When I saw what you did with your place it was almost as if it was exaclty what the rooms called out for. Love the accent walls throughout. They are beautiful and inspirational - accent walls are not always done well but you have done them perfectly.

Kim - thanks for sharing!

Stunning is the word. I'm not a big fan of Mid Century because it usually adheres too strictly with a bygone era. But David and Scott have shown me that this style can convey ease, fun, tranquility, earthiness and elegance all at once. Awesome!

this is stunning, and does not seem to be "stuck" in mid-century design, rather they have turned what was dated into classic and timeless.

Just the right measure of homage without being stuck in nostalgia. Bravo on your transformation from dated to dashing.

I LOVE a good reno .. and this is a GOOD reno. Perfect blend of keeping old and new in balance.
Helps that I love this era home (must date back to my parents owning a 'then new' home very similar to this).
As usual, you always find the best out there. Lucky for all of us (-:

These guys have talent - obviously - they definitely should do more projects to bring ugly old homes back to life. Love your work!!

wow, this is absolutely gorgeous! we have a 1950 or 1952 (records don't match each other...) ranch and i'm trying to bring it away from the unattractive makeover that the previous owners gave it. It's not *too* bad, but i know that the place has a lot more potential than where it's at right now. thanks for inspiring. :)

Wowee - thank you all indeed for you lovely and kind comments about our bungalow and its transformation. So thrilled and flattered that it's hit the spot with so many of you!! We're being interviewed next week by www.midcenturymagazine.com for a feature in their next issue  — they're very much about mixing the old with the new so we'll be sure to point them to this post and all your likeminded comments. Thanks ever so much, especially to Kim for including us on her super blog!

PS - We're on the look-out for our next midcentury property at the moment - with enough room to offer bed & breakfast (our next business venture)! Follow us @the_bungalow or sign up on our website www.bungalowindustries.com and we'll keep you posted!

Personally, I would have kept the Chesterfield Sofas and designed around them. I have always dreamed of owning a chesterfield sofa!
