A maisonette in Maida Vale
The star of the show might be the high ceilings. It might be the lovely large windows overlooking the communal garden or the dark oak parquet flooring. It might be the charcoal coloured staircase or the new kitchen. Any one of these could be the stand out feature of this renovated maisonette in London's Maida Vale by Studio 29 Architects & Interior Design but for me it's the bespoke, blown bubble chandelier in amber, lemon yellow and cyan hued glass.
A casual glam
What do you get when you mix industrial with bling, Palm Springs with plantation style, all with a South African influence? A house brimming with the owner's personality by Durban-based Douglas and Douglas. Definitely glam but a casual almost effortless glam. We know better ;)
Still stalking
OK I'll fess up. I missed this house on my recent forays into local real estate listings until a fellow stalker sent me a link. Am I glad she did! Favourite Sydney suburb Redfern? Tick. Terrace house renovation? Tick. Great art collection? Tick. Cool mix of old and new? Tick. Polished plaster walls that must feel amazing on a stinking hot day? Tick. Link here while it lasts.
First stalking of the year
I love when the real estate market starts to heat up after the holiday break. More houses listed and a greater chance of hitting the design jackpot. If you are a regular reader you will know I have a thing for older houses in inner city suburbs and if they have an architect designed modern extension out back then even better. I'm stalking in Paddington, Sydney and I think it might be love. Exposed old brick, glass transition between heritage and new, slick open-plan living areas with a great connection between in and out. There's even a car lift and I don't know why that excites me but it does. With Sydney house prices we'll never afford it but it's all about the stalking and the gawking. Link here while it lasts.
