Stalking in colour

Take a terrace in Paddington, Sydney. Do the usual. Dark grey exterior. White interiors. So far just like your neighbours. Add black trims. Still like many of your neighbours. Fill with colourful furniture, rugs and great art. You're narrowing down the locals who decorate just like you. Paint your kitchen in your face yellow. All of it. Everything. OK now you're on your own! So much to love about this house. Some of it leaves me scratching my head. Does anyone know if the pyramids of fruit are pieces of art, housewarming presents or early "Christmas trees"? Link while it lasts here.

The house at .... again

Yesterday's House at Hautefage divided opinion so I couldn't resist posting its sister property The House at Cannes. The creative force behind both houses is Jason MacLean of MacLean Interiors. (And silly me I only realised today that I had already blogged Jason's work back in 2008.) Once again MacLean juxtaposes the historical with the modern. It's a marriage of incongruities. Bright, modern colour, pattern and shapes sit uncompromisingly in a sun drenched pastel Mediterranean confection of a building. It's edgy, uncompromising and just a little rock star glam. Perfect for a Cannes getaway.

Animal crackers?

Two apartments. One Potts Point and the other Surry Hills, both Sydney. For a moment ignore the fact that the Potts Point apartment has a view that half of us would kill for. Let's look at the similarities instead. Dark walls. Colourful "pops" (as in snap, crackle, pop not grandpa), eclectic mix of furniture, lashings of drama and oversized animals. Gigantic giraffe and dominating deer. Are they crackers to have such overwhelming animal decor? Or just fun loving decor fools? Not sure if I could live with such large taxidermied heads in such a bijou apartment but I do like those Surry Hills brown walls. Which one does it for you or would you be leaving the furniture and art out on the kerb for collection? Stalking inner city Sydney is always so much fun. Potts Point link here while it lasts and Surry Hills here.

Benjamin Noriega-Ortiz (again)

I have been a HUGE fan of interior designer Benjamin Noriega-Ortiz of BNOdesign since I stumbled upon his website back in '07. I've blogged some of his projects in the past (here, here and here) and it's about damn time I blog his latest works. His designs can border on bizarre, but they're always fun, funky and bold - either completely bathed in shades of white, or wild colours like pink and turquoise. I think it's a hoot that he uses birds, feathers and fur often in his spaces. You need some talent and ballz to make those items work and not have the result be completely trashy.

Tilton Fenwick

It's pattern on pattern, colour, layering, bold and quirky touches. It's casual yet chic, elegant but slightly screwy. It's WASP chic with a kick of fun, high and low and just darned pretty. It's interior design duo of the moment Suysel DePedro Cunningham and Anne Maxwell Foster of Tilton Fenwick.
