Colour zap

The latest from award winning design firm Andy Martin Architects. Chevron House, West London. "Inspired by the architecture of the existing elegantly proportioned spaces, the design sets out to exaggerate, by scaling the space by removing walls, and attaching new space to create a large Edwardian warehouse on each of the three levels. The ground floor, the public level is essentially one space which is divided only by the use of colour and material. On the second and third levels, the private floors, bedrooms merge into bathrooms and visa versa. The rear of the property has new extensions off both the living and kitchen reaching into the garden to absorb the light from the south. The client's brief to use colour extensively was applied in such that the walls and ceilings are left light in colour (off white) and that only elements or interventions (joinery etc) would be strongly coloured giving the house a lighter atmosphere with greater sense of perspective." Colour. OMG colour! It's like a zing from tingly fruit candies, the zap from sherbert powder. I think I need a green bathroom!

Beautiful

The colours, the light, the rug, the shot. Another stunning photo by Canadian snapper Virginia MacDonald.

London real estate stalking #2

As promised, here is another Domus Nova property. This time it's a rental, which is probably good news as I'm not sure how many buyers would be tickled pink to discover red carpeting and a bright orange bathroom. I do love how neutral the spaces are with colour brought in through furnishings. Most people do it the other way around. I think this takes far more bravery. Check out that sofa for example. Surely more of an investment than a can of paint.

Reader's home before and after

Kate emailed from the Adelaide Hills in South Australia. "After being inspired by you both so many times, I wanted to share an outcome that you helped inform. We recently completed a soup-to-nuts renovation. It was a long slog, but we finally got there and we're thrilled. Thank you for providing inspiration during the design phase and critical creative lifts when it seemed like it would never end and I was running out of steam." Kate describes the original house on her blog as "Outside: yellow bricks, small aluminum-framed windows, and lots of lattice-work pergolas. Inside: a rabbit's warren, with too many doors leading into lots of pokey rooms and a front door that entered directly into the family room where the refrigerator sat." Here are some befores ...

WOW Kate what a wonderful home... now! I can't believe the change. My favourite spot? The library. Oh and the kitchen. And the ensuite and the garden. I'd love to see your home photographed for a magazine. Some of you will realise that the shots Kate has shared are real estate listing photographs. Yes it's true. Kate and her family have worked so hard to create this miracle and now it's on the market. (Link here.) Good luck with the sale Kate and make sure you share your next renovation!

Lots more after the jump!

More from Sera

My previous post of Sera's work was all about white. This time it's a mixture - in black, bright and a few extras I could not resist.
