Back in black

I can't stay away from taking photos of my black room. I'd say it was because I was practicing with my new camera but you wouldn't believe me. Still haven't got the perfect picture yet. I'm sure you'll get sick of it soon :) The painter did the stairs today. I'm stuck upstairs on the computer listening to Adele and blog surfing. When the stairs are dry I can clean up the dust in the room and wash the floors. Didn't want to risk dust floating through the air and settling on my new old black stairs. Treads and risers only. Cedar rails, balustrades and stringer just tidied up with a matt estapol. Love love love love love. Everything stinks but hey that's the price you pay :)

Ha! Don't ever think that your black walls are boring. I'm loving the updates. It looks so good. So good. Have a great weekend caressing your walls. xx

No time for caressing. I need to mop the floor ... again. Move that furniture out that's in shot back to where it belongs and put the bedroom furniture back in. Then there is picture hanging. Curtain sewing. Then tidy my office .... arggghhh more floor washing. Just noticed the windows need cleaning :P:P:P

Love!! Everything looks sophisticated and contemporary juxtaposed by a black wall. Also, are they extra matt? Seems so and that makes it looks velvety (is that a word?). Did the same with our drawing/TV room which I also wanted to do for years and is now the most inviting and cozy space I ever had. Did you consider doing the ceiling also? This again changes the entire feel of the space.

Keep up the amazing work, love your blog!

Is that a certain horse I see? It all looks so amazing keep the pictures coming.

Jo, the black walls and doors are very sleek.

Next time you paint, though, you don't have to "pay the price" with the "stink" (and the awful health effects). I use AFM Safecoat and it may be a little more expensive but it goes on lovely and NO odor and harmful chemicals.

I am not a big fan of black but this looks really cool. Can't wait to see the rest of your work! The aged wood floors and terracotta floors look awesome against the black.

Oh Jo thank you so much for posting these. I'm about to start work on our new place and your photos and enthusiasm (amazing to have that after the job is done!) have given me the courage to go dark in the bedroom, front hall and some other areas. It looks fantastic and I bet you're so glad you did it.

Jo, it looks super fantastic. Love the gloss and matte finish together. Really superb.
I've always adored the colour combination of brick houses with gloss black trim - so strong & classic. You have it indoors.
Good luck as the work continues...
I wish I could be there to help you clean floors. Seriously. :)

Beautiful! So dramatic and sexy...I've wanted to paint my bedroom black, but have been afraid that it won't turn out. This is inspiring.

I'm so glad I've gone black and like all colours (OK not really a colour) it changes as the light changes during the day. I know it's not for everyone but I love it. Still a bitch to photograph though.
