Curtains
Cruisey Saturday. Coffee, thrifting, shops, got some great bread, chatting to friends. Thinking linen for my black bedroom curtains. Can get a good deal on the fabric (yes those are napkins but I can get the linen by the yard). Natural or ecru. Not sure. I'm leaning towards the ecru except now I don't want to call it ecru. It's more grey natural. Anyway .... that's my vintage suzani that will be my bedspread. Maybe some tortoiseshell cane blinds behind the linen drops. Reminds me I better buy a sewing machine. My old one is dead. Oh ombre! Maybe I can dip die the ends of the linen drops to get an ombre effect. Maybe not. There will be an awful lot of curtain!
I can't get enough of these inspiration images of Scott Newkirk's Brooklyn home on Michael Mundy's An Afternoon With ... but with black walls and a slightly more grey natural (let's not call it ecru) linen.

Jo,
Either one would look stunning with your suzani bedspread and the black walls. Flax is such a lovely natural textile to have in the home. Our towels and sheets are irish linen and worth the price. The ecru has more of a blue/taupe and the natural is more beige.
But what is the ombre effect? For a minute I thought you were cussing "oh ombre!" I'm really curious. Thanks.
darl, i found some grey/ecruuuuu linen curtain lengths in spotlight, very easy peasy. Tie tops, so i just tied in a knot to the old school big chucky brown curtain rings. worked a treat.
and better still, no sewing!
ok i totally missed this post. i am forever obsessed with linen curtains. when the sunlight hits them and you see the weave...*sigh*. i think the "not ecru but ecru" would be gorgeous against your black walls.
Why don't you use an artist linen? They have a lovely texture, good weight and are very reasonably priced (and wide!)? You could even do a nice zigzag stitch detail at the seams..
Believe it or not Lauren I have a friend who has a friend who can get me 150cm wide linen for dirt cheap, dirt cheap. That's why I'm going for it. Ssssssshhhh don't tell anyone but not much more than burlap.
Kim you gotta keep up buddy.
Sue the ombre look or dip dying is one idea but you watch I won't do it :P
Jules I'm so going to check those curtains out. I have 4 meter high ceilings with the windows at 3 meters so they might be a bit short :P Don't you hate me :) High ceilings ... sigh!
