The Stables of Como

Let's meet up for a coffee. Perhaps a little cake? I'd love to while away an hour or two gossiping and grazing at the The Stables of Como. We'll be tempted by the gardens and the historic Como House but you know what, I think I'd rather sit and catch up with you in these cute cafe surroundings. We can always come back and do a house tour another day.

Auhaus

A beach shack renovation by architectural studio Auhaus. The original humble cottage was remodelled adding texture and warmth to the casual living within and out. Cathedral ceilings increase the sense of space. A second sister cottage or guest pavilion is connected not only by a deck but by repeating the cladding and the childlike house shape. Native tea trees incorporated into the space provide a dramatic connection to the site. A wonderful compound for the family and friends that are a given with a beach home. Why live in a wonderful part of the world (Barwon Heads, Victoria) if you can't share the seachange?

The Nak

A few posts ago there was much debate about a Soviet bunker conversion. Bad history vs. good design. Can new lives and loves erase the horror, the harm? Wolveridge Architects have created a home that is beautiful and functional while sitting solidly in its bush setting like the agricultural/industrial building it once was. The death of horses has given way to new life, new use. Thoughts? Can good adaptive design rehabilitate not just the building but the building's history?

Dark shadows bright light

Hiding silently in the shadows of moss covered trees, dark walls blend seamlessly with old growth. Enter the door and all changes. Wide walls of windows capture the light throwing black and white interiors into stark relief. Wooden accents warm and burnish. Retro meets modern. Light versus dark. Sharp angles against the softening canopy of mature trees. The Arboretum Residence remodel by Portland, Oregon based Skylab Architects.

A comfie seat, some sun and a coffee ...

That's how I intend to start my Saturday. A spot just like this would be perfect. Have a great weekend!
