Stalking a little piece of contemporary retro

Built originally in 1973 this Prahran, Melbourne home packs a lot of style on its 155 m² block of land. A 2014 renovation remains true to its 70s vibe but with cleaner, more contemporary lines. I like that the exterior is rather constrained with just a hint of what lies within proclaimed in its garage door. Sometimes real estate stalking makes me jealous, sometimes for the house, sometimes for the contents and sometimes for the art. I'm coveting the dejected Batman in the entrance. Vintage love

Jo and I are still in long weekend mode trying to recuperate from all the chocolate and general bad-for-you food that was consumed so I leave you with this fabulous home I spotted on Elle Decoration Sweden's website. The rustic living areas were enhanced with plush, custom furnishings and vintage pieces to create a warm, laid-back setting.

Gambling den to family home

A former office and gambling joint reinvented as a family home. This stunning loft with its industrial materials palette of exposed brick and concrete is warmed by beautiful old wooden doors and floors. Highlights for me? The bath, all the storage, the shutters and, of course, that brick. De Korendrager by Dutch interior design and branding agency TANK.

Wellard Architects

I don't know which of these two houses by South Melbourne-based Wellard Architects I like better. But that's a moot point. There's no reason why I can't be inspired by both of them. Contemporary Australian design, beautifully crafted with an emphasis on cabinet work and a rich palette of textures and finishes.
