More WINKS

WINKS - weekend links. Here we list what has come in during the week, things we've found and things we think you'll want to see. If you'd like to see your blog or website featured email us and if we think it fits with our readers we'll link you. I am not dying of laryngitis so I thought I'd pick up where Jo left off, instead of doing my usual Flickr finds post.

  • Kim McCabe sent a really sweet email thanking Jo and I for our hard work on the blog so I thought I'd reciprocate the love and post about her super Etsy shop called Curiouser & Curiouser where she has some really cute prints and collages, such as the one above. Go check it out. (Thanks Kim!)
  • Deborah emailed about her cool indoor/outdoor graphics:
Stick these outdoors or in, graphic stickers adhere to any glass or plexi surface.
Perfect for balcony guardrails, patios, windows or doors.
A great alternative to curtains and a modern touch on your terrace.
Available in white opaque or 'frosted' (lets the light pass but blocks the view).
Sold as 11 x 17 inch sheets (A3) but custom sizes are possible.
Using several sheets creates lovely leafy patterns, and yes, you can still wash windows normally.

  • Peggy started a design blog called Design FormuLA at the beginning of the year and I think she's off to a great start. Have a look here.
  • Patrick has a brand new site that sells ultra modern furniture and other modern furnishings. It's called Go Contempo. Fabulous stuff Patrick!
  • Chris Brown of Urban Prairie emailed about Refueled, Alt Country Style + Design, his new online zine that debuts in the spring. Read more about it here.
  • Sabine has launched an online shop that features some very creative wallpaper in gorgeous colour combinations. Lots to look at here.(Thanks Sabine!)

  • Jessica, from Toronto has a great blog called The World According to Jessica Claire where her topics are mostly design-related. She posted the other day about a phenomenal artist, Andrea Marcus, and thought our readers would appreciate her talents as well. WOW!! (Thanks Jessica!)

  • Fabio emailed with a link to YouTube videos he uploaded that shows the production of hollow furniture. The song playing in this video had me chuckling (it does that to me every time). Thanks Fabio!

WINKS

WINKS - weekend links. Here we list what has come in during the week, things we've found and things we think you'll want to see. If you'd like to see your blog or website featured email us and if we think it fits with our readers we'll link you. My apologies for a shorter WINKS today. I'm almost dying from laryngitis and a bad chest cold as well as internet connection problems but the show must go on! So what's in this week?

  • Erin for Design for Mankind sent me this email and it had me quaking in horror. You see I hate having photos taken. I'm a very private person especially in the last few years. My friends joke I must be in a witness protection program. Here's what Erin wrote, "To honor Design for Mankind's new look and NEW site to be released next month, I'm hosting a Yearbook Blogger Party. That's right, a trip down memory lane for the bloggin' folk! So, regardless of whether you were homecoming queen or the chess club prez, you lucky ducks get to re-live your high school past!

Here's what I need from you:
An old high school yearbook photo (can include senior portraits, 'voted most likely to...'s and anything you don't find potentially incriminating).
A current portrait photo (can be self portrait, but do your best to make the shot clear and hi-res)
Your vote for Blogging Homecoming Queen and King (among others: class clown, best dressed and most likely to succeed).

I'll be compiling a yearbook of the greatest '08 moments to be released in March!"

    OMG!The gang at 17
I'm 18 here but at least I cut my hair!Annie Hall was big OK.
    Hiding

So OK Erin here's a couple of photos from my senior year. We don't have year books in Australia. They're old and faded just like I am now but I think it's rather brave of me to own up to a yellow tracksuit and hair like that. It was 1979. ARGH!!! Yes I admit it I'm 46 this year. The newer photo is not that new, a few years old now. My one and only attempt at selling work at a market. Thank god a shop picked them up straight away. The photo is not that clear but remember it's rumoured that I'm in the witness protection program. Good luck Erin! I hope others play more fair than I do.

  • Carolyn emailed to introduce her blog Hello my name is Carolyn, AKA Carolyn - the project blog. She loves to make things around the house and boy has she come up with some great ideas!

  • This in for ABC Home, New York. "ABC Home makes transitioning to a healthier, green lifestyle easier than ever with the opening of Home & Planet—a destination located on the third floor of ABC Home that merchandises our beautiful and cutting edge sustainable offerings in one location. Curated to take as much of the guess work out of decision making as possible, Home & Planet delivers a range of choices in a variety of areas. These are integrated into a museum-like setting to help customers make the most educated choices possible, protecting themselves and our planet at the same time." Please if you live in New York check it out for me. It looks amazing and I like to live vicariously.

Once again sorry for a shortened WINKS. If I'm alive next weekend I promise it will be longer!

WINKS - PART II

There were so many links for this weekend that I thought I'd help Jo out and do a post too.

WINKS - weekend links. Here we list what has come in during the week, things we've found and things we think you'll want to see. If you'd like to see your blog or website featured email us and if we think it fits with our readers we'll link you. So what's in this week?

  • Laura Simak of Emmerson Troop emailed to let us know that William Emmerson just unveiled the last piece of the Ab Ovo collection - a stunning, hand carved dining chair. It was literally just unveiled last week after 4 long months of design and production. William also has four additional limited edition, gallery quality collections planned for 2008 that are currently in the design phase, and she'll keep us updated on those. LOVE this chair! Thanks Laura!

  • Greg at 2Modern is looking for guest bloggers to contribute weekly to their blog 2Modern Design Talk. If anyone out there is interested, here is the contact info. Fellow bloggers, if you have time this would be a great opportunity to get your name out there!

  • Judy of Naked & Angry emailed about her new line of fabulous rainwear: "I work as a graphic designer for a distributing and marketing company - but now, instead of representing OTHER people's brands, we've decided to start our own line! It is a rainwear line called "dav." About 80% of the designs shown here are of my own creation!! I also created the flash animation teaser thing...It's pretty much one of my small dreams come true - while web design is fun and all... it's so freaking AWESOME to be able to help with product development, and see my pattern designs show up on an actual product. We'll be launching our rainwear line this month, at the Las Vegas "Magic" tradeshow. Very exciting - please send us good vibes - I hope everyone falls in love with it!" Judy, those are the coolest rainboots I've ever seen and I SO need a pair now that I walk to work. But how does one choose from so many amazing patterns and colours?!?!?!

  • Leah of More Ways to Waste Time wants help spreading the word of a wonderful exchange program that brings art to orphans around the world, and gives them a chance to express themselves with art as well. That is such a great idea! Here is her post with a summary of the program and this is the organization's website.

  • I had to mention Claudia's blog sofablog, because the other day she sent me a really sweet email. She thought I'd get a kick out Frau Maier, a German label for lamps and furniture. The kicker is Frau Maier is a dog, and the dog is all over their product shots, like below:

But more importantly, I wanted to give her blog a shout-out because she also had this to say "I only started blogging and still need to learn a lot about this, but so far it is great fun. Blogging is not quite so big in Germany yet - certainly not with the design crowd. But I believe in it, thanks to some great inspirations like desire to inspire." Claudia, I wish you tons of success with your blog!

  • To celebrate the launch of his first ever decorating book due out this fall Thom Filicia, celebrity interior designer, star of Bravo’s Queer Eye For The Straight Guy and Style Network’s Dress My Nest is scouring America in order to find his next family room makeover muse. To find this lucky makeover candidate he is sponsoring his own online contest. The winner most deserving of a family room style intervention will receive not only a free entire floor-to-ceiling overhaul by Thom, but may also be featured in the new book. To find out more go here. Not fair! I don't live in America! Get those entries in before March 4, 2008.
  • Mark Cutler designer and blogger extraordinaire sent some images of his latest venture. I'll let him explain. "They are a series of Tables that I have designed called "Tableaux Cloths". I designed them to fill a need I had for a low cost, yet stylish solution for a covered table. They come in a number of different sizes. The Tableaux cloths come in beige with a black image but can be custom colored (for just a little bit more) in any Pantone color you choose, so the possibilities are endless! I love the whimsical blend of antique and modern, and have used them in many different situations. It is one of my favorite tricks! They are currently available at Colburn Sassaman, and we are happy to ship all over the world."
  • kontakt magazine, a modern design magazine focused on architecture, urban living, interior design, art, and travel based in Phoenix, Arizona, is hosting a furniture design competition. The competition invites independent designers or a group of designers to submit original contemporary furniture designs for a chance to be featured at the Phoenix Contemporary Design Fair. Finalists will display for three days at PCDF in April and will appear in a post-show issue of kontakt. Renderings and/or sketches of the design are due by March, 14, 2008. If chosen as one of ten finalists, designers will be required to have a live prototype by the time of the design show. You'll find more information and registration forms here.
  • Kathryn emailed me to introduce her blog and I'm glad she did! "I thought I'd share my blog, Snippet & Ink with you. It's a little different, and though it's not interior/home design, it is about design and inspiration. Every day I post one or more wedding inspiration boards, some of them just for fun, some based on requests by brides." Beautiful and so inspirational. Thanks Kathryn!
  • Nadine from Munich, Germany also wanted to share her blog Creative Lounge. It's about fashion, interior design, lifestyle and travel and it's full of lovely eye candy. I'm off to check out the archives!
  • Muse is a new online wedding space to help couples plan their weddings online. Muse wants to make it easy for you (and fun). They've made each planning tool with the couple in mind. Muse is very easy to use and completely free. Thanks for letting us know about your site Clio!
  • Katie Howlett opened a small home accessories shop in Richmond, VA with her partner Megan about 5 months ago. The girls sell primarily handmade goods by independent designers, their philosophy formed around the idea of quality over quantity, and sustainability. You can check out the shop and the designers they carry at their blog. Katie let me know when you go online so I can wink you again!
  • Dom Trapp sent images of his newly designed modular storage system Quad. Simple, elegant, durable the Quad can be coffee table, bookcase, night stand or storage column. Endless possibilities as you fit the cubes together. Merci Dom for sharing your design.
