WINKS

WINKS - weekend links. Here we list what has come in during the week, things we've found and things we think you'll want to see. If you'd like to see your blog or website featured email us and if we think it fits with our readers we'll link you. So what's in this week?

  • Lynne from lovedreamliveathome is having a wonderful competition to win this original painting by the talented Taos artist Sage Moon. More details here. Thanks Lynne!

  • New prints in store for Jaime of the fabulous blog Design Milk. Not only does Jaime write one of the coolest blogs she is such a talented artist. I'll be ordering my Rocky Mountains No. 2 soon!

  • Double dipping for Jaime today as she also emailed about exciting new items in her online store Vitamin D(esign). Love that last print "Internal Growth" by Wolfie and the Sneak.

  • New at Jonathan Adler are these too too groovy ink drawings by Don Carney. Each piece is framed in one of a kind vintage frames and are just the prescription for that touch of fun in your interiors. Jonathan and the gang call it ye olde meets gothic meets mantique meets botanicals. Available at his New York and LA stores.

  • Jennifer Ramos of Made by Girl emailed to let us in on her new prints. "I'd like to introduce you to our newest set of poster designs called "LOVE Candy". At this time we're launching 4 sweet colors: Lemon, Pretty Lavender, Cotton Candy & Sky Blue. These cute pieces of art are suitable for mounting in a dining area, office, bedroom or even a child's room! We call them Love Candy because the colors are reminiscent of candies & sweets and they deliver a message of LOVE to any home, its that simple. Available size: 16 X24 Price $25 each. They are currently available via my Etsy shop and then via my main site." Love these and Jennifer always styles her product shots so beautifully. Click over and check out her fab designs.

  • New blog alert. Susan Snow lives and works on Prince Edward Island, Canada. She's the design diva behind Moving Designz Interior Decorating and her recently opened store "Moving Designz Home & Cottage". (It apparently feeds her addiction to great design and shopping.) You would think she'd be swamped with all these creative pursuits but she has started her blog Susan on Design. Thanks for sharing Susan. It's full of eye candy!

  • Cris McCall at Tinlark Gallery, Hollywood California emailed "I wanted to let you know that on April 12, 2008, Tanya Aguiniga's installation 'Lineation' opens at Tinlark Gallery in Hollywood.'Lineation' marks the first time the artist will integrate the process of weaving with furniture to create an installation. Each chair will have a 30 foot train hand woven on a loom. This train becomes the seat, backrest, ceiling and eventually creates an environment around the chairs. 'Lineation' explores personal space, barriers, interconnectedness and dependency." If you're in the area do check it out.

  • Finally I saved the best to last. I received an email from Rodolfo Rocchetti from Tappezzeria Rocchetti. Rodolfo is a master upholsterer in Rome. His website features all the usual finely crafted upholstery and drapery that you'd expect (with an Italian influence) but what astonished me and truly convinced me of Roldolfo's talent are his art pieces. LOOK AT THESE SOFAS! OMG! And for the animal lovers out there these are all made from faux fur. I don't know whether to laugh or cry with joy. And you must see the 2 headed cow sofa on his website. La ringrazio Rodolfo!

WINKS - weekend links. Here we list what has come in during the week, things we've found and things we think you'll want to see. If you'd like to see your blog or website featured email us and if we think it fits with our readers we'll link you. So what's in this week?

  • Andrea Heimer has a new range of original works and prints available. We love her earlier work and it's no different with these. I'm really into typography at the moment and these are fab!

  • My Design Secrets is the key to the secret list of recommended vendors from Interior Designer Lorrie Browne, who’s been pouring her heart and soul into her client’s projects for 14 years. Explore helpful how-to articles on interior design, get expert tips and tricks, and see what vendors have made Lorrie’s “Favorites” list. It’s everything you need to discover the brilliant designer within yourself! Thanks Tim for the email. There's so much to explore!

  • Adelle & Justin from H is for Home are so excited that their online store is finally live! So are Kim and I who have been salivating over their wares for some time now after meeting them on Flickr. Don't miss their blog H is for Home Harbinger. It's full of great info on all things retro and collectible. If you're a West German aficionado then check out their Flickr group West German Pottery Collections.

  • Theresa from Otsutree has been in a few blogs lately but I really want to give another shout out to her great work. I'm particularly loving these prints. If you haven't been to her website yet then go now. There are some seriously cool T-shirts I'd love to get my hands on.

  • Alesha Glennon owns Sydney Aboriginal art gallery Artery. She travels to the Northern Territory every second month to source the exquisite works that hang in her gallery. "My background is design - I am an interior designer and spent about 6 years working for Freedom Furniture as a furniture designer - anyway now I have an Aboriginal Art Gallery," she emailed me. And what a gallery. If Aboriginal art makes your hear sing like it does mine you must visit her website. (My apologies on the lateness of this wink. I lost a number of emails and it was only by back tracking through my page history that I found Alesha and her amazing gallery again. I'm so glad I did!)

  • New blog alert and it's Aussie! Shell emailed "I'm just a mum at home with nothing better to do with her spare time and creative flair..." The blog is Bubba and Chicken. You'll have to click over to find out why. Love her profile. "The mouse in my mind is running flat out to keep up with both my kiddilinks and my creative desires. Thought that I would start a blog to document the funny goings on that is my life and the things that I love to create... Hope you enjoy..." I'm sure we will Shell.

  • In case you didn't know Abbey from Abbey Goes Design Scouting has a cute etsy store Abigail Vintage selling all sorts of bijoux vintage goodies. I can't get enough of brass at the moment and Abbey has some lovely miniatures. (Paint-by-numbers too!)

  • Anne Kristoff has just launched her Etsy store Poof with a trio of photos taken in Chinatown NYC during Chinese New Year. Up next week: a trio of painterly landscapes taken from a moving train just in time for spring. (Interestingly Anne is the same Anne Kristoff that reps Missy Elliott and other musicians as well as being a travel writer. Another woman using her talent to the max!)
  • Stay tuned for next weekend's Holiday Reading List. I'm working on it now and it's a bumper packed list! I love a long weekend and as you can see from the first photo I have been checking out the chocolate rabbits ahead of the Easter weekend!

WINKS - weekend links. Here we list what has come in during the week, things we've found and things we think you'll want to see. If you'd like to see your blog or website featured email us and if we think it fits with our readers we'll link you. (It's been a quiet week in blogland. Wish I could say the same thing about the "real" world.) So what's in this week?

  • The Shiny Squirrel has lots of fabulous new art in store. (I love it when I get the Shiny Squirrel email.) Head on over for new work and new artists.

  • Rob emailed us. "I wasn’t sure if you had the chance to check out Ann McGuire’s new blog, ColorBuzz, which is all about color and the inspiration behind choosing a paint color. Ann is the founder of BeeHive Studios and a Valspar color consultant. Your readers may also be interested in submitting their makeovers to Valspar’s site, which features a new makeover every couple of weeks or so. They can link to the makeover section of the site by clicking here."

  • New blog by Amy who emailed (and graciously featured my work). "Pikaland is a blog about living the illustrated life having all manner of things made by illustrators/artists that'll fit in nicely with one's home, such as prints, stationery, toys and the like! I'm constantly finding new inspirations and wares from artists' and illustrators' works that are available for sale, and so I thought I'd gather it into a place where I can keep them all together." Good luck Amy. I love the artists you have featured so far.

  • Jordan Cappella lucite furniture designer and blogger has a new venture Fiore Culture offering personal floral designs for all occasions. Just in are these eco chic natural and fibre wood bases. Jordan when will you have time to party with your empire growing so fast?

  • "Hi there! This is Joel Pirela from BlueAntStudio.com. We are proud to present the new series on the never ending saga of trying to educate and inform people about the lovely designers from the Mid Century era. The museum series features the work of designers from the '50's with iconic proofs of their work in the furniture area and also in the sculpture/architecture/wall art. Right now, we are featuring the work of Harry Bertoia, Jean Prouve, Charles+Ray Eames, Eero Saarinen, Eero Arnio, Arne Jacobsen, Verner Panton and George Nelson. To make this introduction even sweeter, we are offering on them our "now famous" 2 x 1! Any combo you want.... 2 MCM or Museum Posters, 2 Designer's alphabet, 1 Poster + 1 alphabet... your choice! Even the New Museum Edition is included!" Love Joel's work (and the blog) and it's a great offer! Find out more details here.
  • Finally a shout out to all etsy store owners in Brisbane, Australia. A meet up has been arranged on Saturday 15 March at 11 am in West End's Avid reader bookshop! Further details here. (Thanks GreenEnvyDesigns.) I'm so excited to meet some of the BrisVegas etsy divas that I thought I'd share some of the artists and crafters who have promised to be there.

  • Linda Merrill of Chameleon Interiors and fabulous and informative blog ::Surroundings:: attended Maison et Objet a couple of weeks ago in France. All are hand-printed giving greater detail and allowing bespoke colourways on even small meterages. Neither harshly modernist nor strictly classic these fabrics are timeless and so versatile. Thanks for allowing us this sneak peek Caroline.

  • The Stingray chair by Thomas Pedersen is so sexy it hurts my eyes just looking at it! Available here. You have been warned this online store is stuffed full of gorgeous Danish design.

  • "I recently opened an online store of my prints and just wanted to introduce myself. I think what you guys do is awesome! Will definitely visit regularly. Thanks John." Hey John it should be us thanking you! I LOVE your work, the photos, the frames. Stunning. I need more than one I think. Check out all the work at John Murphy. See which ones you want too.

WINKS

WINKS - weekend links. Here we list what has come in during the week, things we've found and things we think you'll want to see. If you'd like to see your blog or website featured email us and if we think it fits with our readers we'll link you. So what's in this week?

  • Tiny People is a hip kid's store (actually 2 hip stores) one in Byron Bay and the other on Queensland’s Kirra Beach, but more excitingly they have an online boutique where they sell internationally. Danielle, one of the two sisters that own the stores, travels the world sourcing stylish and innovative designs for Tiny People, and they have some gorgeous product available. For the design conscious parent or friend, it’s the perfect place to source the best design for that special tiny person!

  • These days it can be challenging to determine what the objects surrounding us are made of. Manufacturers are not required to use labelling describing contents of your lamp or chair. The idea behind Matteriashop is precisely the opposite because the materials utilized in making the objects are responsive to the environment, all kinds of details, such as ingredients, source of material, designer info, manufacturing processes and disposal indications, are supplied as a way for customers to make informed choices. Matteriashop collaborates with designers all over the globe, offering outrageously gorgeous objects for living made of eco-smart materials deriving from recycled, organic, renewable, non toxic sources as well as energy efficient lighting.

  • Dennis Blankemeyer from American Furnishings emailed to introduce his unique vintage furniture. American Furnishing's philosophy is focused on keeping the Middle American dream alive. Found objects in abandoned factories repurposed into useful everyday items. Work benches from a decrepit Packard Motor Car plant become a kitchen island. Steel parts carts from a General Motors plant in Detroit become rolling liquor cabinets. Long forgotten wooden foundry objects become "high art" when placed on metal stands or hung on a wall. Large metal shoe racks from a foreclosed Ohio factory become book shelves.

  • We've featured Make up the wall before. Now comes the news that they have finally launched a new website - as some of you might already know. It has a webshop that is using Paypal so it is now possible to buy Make up the wall products online. Time to revisit the site and see all the new products.

  • Remember Lisa Bengtsson's wallpaper the family with the black and white frames? She's just produced her second wallpaper called "svärmor" which means mother in law in Swedish. This time she's made something for all the shoe lovers out there. Gorgeous and so much fun!

  • "I'm so excited to introduce So Haute a new blog about interior design and other stylish things! I created this blog as a way to indulge in my love for interior design by chronicling all of the amazing places, people, things and ideas that inspire me....Check out So Haute. Post a comment, subscribe, let me know what you think! I hope you enjoy & please check back frequently. Welcome to So Haute!" So I was intrigued, followed the link and found a fabulous new blog. Our mystery fashion publicist blogger now known as Ms So Haute has a winner on her hands!

  • Erica emailed us and we're glad she did. "my blog shift came into being after i found myself in a new place physically, emotionally, professionally, etc. many of my posts are on art, inspiration and all things lovely but i also tell little stories about life and love." Yet another great read. My list of blogs to visit is getting huge! Thanks Erica.

  • The Shiny Squirrel has new work and artists this weekend. Go take a look here. Great work by Denise Simon, Lisa Congdon, Yu-I Chan and India Richer.

  • An email in from Diana with yet another new blog, Please Sir. "My friend, Allison, and I have been inspired by all the great blogs out there and decided to start our own. I'm a textile designer and Allison is a student pursuing her Masters in Southern Literature. We have been friends for several years, and wanted to bring our everyday conversations, ideas, and obsessions to the site. Although we are not a primary design blog, I do tend to divulge in the design world...I just can't resist! Besides several design posts, we discuss everything from art, books, television, movies, life, and more. One might say we are scattered, but no one is one dimensional, so we wanted our blog to have many unique and interesting topics." I'll have no time left in the day with all these new reads. Who am I kidding? I'm addicted to blogs. Thanks Diana!

  • And finally a thought provoking post by Lisa of Shelter featured on her second blog An Examined Life. Lisa asked her friend Linda Dietrich in New Orleans to write about her thoughts post-Katrina and what she thinks are the most important things that need to be done for the city. Lisa was amazed by her answers, the way she expressed herself, and the amount of anger still present after all this time. A great read.
