Stalking on a Saturday

It is sooooooo hot in my part of the world at the moment. Most of the country is experiencing a heatwave. Day after day of unrelenting high temperatures, the threat of bushfires and smoke curling into everything. Oh to be sitting at the table in this house, a large pitcher of iced tea making rings on the wood, waiting for the sea breeze to roll in and annoy the pages of the Saturday papers spread in disarray before me. In my fantasy the fire of course is not lit! What a lovely beachy home perched above the trees. Books, vintage furniture and tapa cloth. Perfect. What a great way to start the real estate stalking year. Link here while it lasts.

Lisa Kauffman Tharp

A mix of farmhouse, nautical and a touch of industrial loft. Neutrals married with textures, dappled sunlight filling bright friendly rooms, kitchen and bedroom alike. A fresh take on classic design. Modern with a rustic twist. Beautiful rooms by interior designer Lisa Kauffman Tharp. She calls it barefoot simplicity, casual elegance.

Anna Carin Design 2

I needed more from the portfolio of Anna Carin Design. Wonderful and white in inner Sydney Woollahra. Just the right mix of contemporary, vintage, white and wood with open plan living and calm private areas. Throw in some subtle colour and it's a stylish, functional family home.

Photography by Cate Gray.

Betsy Brown

Take a creative brush to a blank canvas. With painterly strokes apply the colours of life. A landscape to live in, a portrait of the occupants. A graceful vignette, a subtly sublime still life. Beautiful homes by Betsy Brown. Neutral palettes informed by careful colour. Classical and modern, delicate and elegant yet never precious.

Stalking on a Saturday

At this time of the year the cities and towns across Australia empty as the population begins the annual Christmas migration to the beach. It is the ultimate family daydream to own a beach shack with water views or if you can't afford to buy one then at least rent it for the two weeks around Christmas and into the new year. Sun, sand, surfing and copious amounts of seafood and alcohol. That's the way to celebrate Christmas in the Great Southern Land. Today I'm stalking the ultimate beach shack at the most easterly tip of Australia, in the celebrity holiday town of Byron Bay. Owned by the Arnott (biscuit) family it is known by the locals as "The White House". Time to check the biscuit jar for the extra coin though. Asking price is over $6 million AUD. Ouch! You can rent it for around $14 000 a week (Kate Moss and Elle Macpherson have). Save me a place on Boxing Day. I'll bring the prawns and champers. Link here while it lasts.
