I wish

I wish I could live in this New York apartment. I wish I could be clean and tidy. I wish my fat labrador didn't shed hair, that my blind husband didn't drag dirty fingers along walls as he walks through the space, that I always manage to spill a drop or two of my coffee as I traverse the kitchen. I wish I could live in this white wonderland. White walls, white floors, white and light furniture. I wish that powder room was mine. I could live happily just in that powder room. I wish I didn't shed hair like my dog. I wish I had a cleaning lady. I wish I lived in this New York apartment.  Sigh ... I wish. By Resolution: 4 Architecture.

Very much

The morning draws on. The muffled thrum of a neighbour's lawn mower provides the base note to the batting rhythm of a moth against the large window. There is someone somewhere in the house. A staccato of heels, the shudder of an old water pipe. A waft of coffee brewing. It cuts across the scent of gladioli. It is peaceful here. Beautiful. So beautiful. Time hangs still between the slow tock of an old clock. "Do you like my old house?" I turn with a smile and answer her. "Yes. Oh yes, very much."

A lovely home via jj Locations.

Still stalking

I'm in St Kilda, Melbourne and I'm so attracted to the bones of this old building. A great blank canvas to create the dream apartment. A bit more layering, a touch more colour (but not too much), a rug or two to showcase the beauty of those old floors and a look that is less "home staged" and more stylin' home. Yes please! Link here while it lasts.

Stalking shadows

What's that? Am I stalking the supernatural? A fleeting shadow? A ghostly apparition? A stencil on the wall? A cute and clever touch to a very narrow side passageway where not much will grow but a bare block wall is just a little too stark. A modern extension to an historic terrace in Fitzroy North, Melbourne. Link here while it lasts.

Margarida's weekend home in Portugal

I am in awe of this weekend home submitted by a reader named Margarida. Here is a bit of info she included: Its located 13 kms from the little village monsaraz & alqueva big lake in the region of alentejo (Portugal). Its our new weekend and holiday family house but its concept was done to be rentable by other families so we are building the new site for it. The Architecture project was done by João favila Menezes. He is very talented and conceptual artist. The interior decoration was done by myself and there is still a lot to do :) it accommodates 12 people and it took us 3 years to finish this project and the idea was to have a piece of modern land that would allow us to go free on modernity but respecting the landscape and the traditions of alentejo architecture. the next step on this family investment is the building of a garden, its a project made by an amazing award winning architecture Teresa Barão. It is absolutely beautiful in its surroundings, and perfection in its simplicity. WOW!
