It's been in the family for years. It was their grandfather's house. Now with the help of architect Manuel Aires Mateus, João and Andreia Rodrigues have created a simple and stylish get away in Montemor-o-Novo, Alentejo, Portugal. Casa no Tempo, minimalism meets rural idyll. Rolling fields, wildflowers, cork grove, horses, pool. I can see the perfect weekend far from the madding crowd. If only I could runaway.
Returning from Brazil in the late 19th century Portuguese migrants brought not only new wealth but architectural influences from their adopted country. Who would have known that a chi chi alpine chalet design would have been popular in Brazil at the time? Fast forward to the 21st century and the"Chalé das Três Esquinas" (Three Cusps Chalet) in Braga, Portugal was in desperate need of repair. Tiago do Vale Arquitectos have breathed new life into the crumbling building with a lightness, a transparency that is defined by the sinuous original staircase that rises through the newly opened spaces. A modern work and live space in a reborn historic building.
Clinton and Diana Grobler of Cape Town, South Africa architecture firm Grobler Architects did quite a number on the cottage. Unfortunately there are no before photos on their website but WOW after some renovating and additions this house is gorgeous! All of the white makes it so calm and fresh. And I really love the kitchen - very cool idea to make everything on the back wall black and the island all white.
Still can't get enough of the Swedish look. You know, the black, white, mixed with wood, softened by the green of indoor plants and brought to life with everyday personal pieces look. It's simple. It's stylish. A touch of boho, a midcentury Scandi classic, an artful tumble of clothes or shoes or toys and the obligatory sheepskin. Loving these rooms from stylist Emma Hos. Black and white beauties for the every day.
I want to live here. Badly. A home (a warehouse in fact) where the architecture is a focal point, and furnishings are a bit sparse. Where space is not an issue, and it's all about the sunlight. Interior design by Made By Cohen, photos by Shannon McGrath.
