Composed

"Corinne is able to distill the essence of unexpected perfection and create space like a painter does, subtly punctuating and bridging the environment, allowing rooms to become places of freedom and clarity."

It's true. These photos are like a painter's study, a small view of the intended work of art. I want to see the whole creation. A glimpse into a Brooklyn loft designed by Corinne Gilbert.

Composure in Cáceres

Serenity. A sense of calm. Of peacefulness. Self-control and poise. An ease of living. A constraint. Carefully curated and cool but not disparate or dull. Imagine living in these rooms. The idea of settling in but not settling for. Home as meditation. By Madrid-based interior designer Luisa Olazabal.

Southold simplicity

2017. I can't believe it. The start of a new year on the blog and I'm excited to get going. My round up of room favourites for 2016 revealed a shift in my tastes. A shift towards a simplified way of living. A shift away from the gimmicky, the throw away, the quick fix. (I know I'll be tempted though. I'm human after all.) It's not about trends. It never should be. It's about exploring your style but keeping it real. It's about the beauty of being authentic. A lovely of cottage isn't torn down or tarted up to be something it's not. It's respected and lived in. It's about surrounding yourself with the pieces you have collected and cherished over time. It's about your personality settling comfortably into the rooms you inhibit. It's like this home in Southold on Long Island by Jennifer Vaughn Miller of Vaughn Miller Studio. Simply beautiful.

A home with antiques and vintage finds

I adore this home featured in Nuevo Estilo. When each piece has a history and tells a story, when they all come together in a beautifully and thoughtfully curated way that I just want to melt into each space. I would love to know what stories the chersterfield above could tell....

I want it all

This breezy and all-white two-room apartment is the latest project sent over to Desire to Inspire by Laura Seppänen Design Agency. It's the brand new home of Stina Mäntyniemi, the head of Cosmopolitan Finland and featured recently in Deko Magazine. The client's wish was for a clean and monochrome interior. No carpets, no curtains. The Bertoia chair was though an absolute must. The look is cosy, minimalist Scandinavian with a palette of paperwhites used on walls, floors and ceilings. The existing kitchen was in a relatively good shape just updated with new cabinet doors, sink, faucet and the old door pull painted matt black. The counter top is Carrara marble. Laura incorporated the client's existing furniture with carefully selected pieces from Finland and abroad, Scandinavian classics mixed with new Nordic brands. Just like the lightbox says - I want it all.
