Flea market scores

I just got back from the flea market, which is REALLY crappy and the only one we have here. But I managed to score, big time. I think Jo and I are starting a peacock chair collection - not that either of us have room for several of these chairs in our small spaces, but when you spot a really decent quality one for TWELVE dollars, you've just got to scoop it up. Which is exactly what I did. I also picked up 2 terracotta buddha heads for my backyard for $10 each, a brass peacock for $5, a brass vase for $7, a West German vase for $15, and a painting for $6. All in a morning's work.

Jo's weekend thrifting

Kim scored a fabulous vintage Herman Miller Eames shell chair. I on the other hand found something a little different. A World War II era Australia Red Cross Society bookcase. Old, chippy, crackled paint with 2 metal and enamel badges at top. Complete with dust and daddy-long-legs spiders. The perfect home for my retro decorating books. I'm just going to clean it and replace the handle and that's it! After I get rid of the spiders. Until then it's living in the garage ... hate spiders!

News from my death bed

OK so I'm sick right now (see pathetic excuse below) but it didn't stop me from thrifting and painting during the week. It has however stopped me from finishing anything. The painting will have to wait till next weekend. The planter will be home to a fabulous fern (house plants are SO 70s) and that rattan child's seat is actually one of a pair and is destined to be painted, cushions made and given to a good friend's 3 year old daughter. A couple of thrones for some princesses to take tea in. I've managed to find a doll's chair and a child's chair. Now I just need to find the adult chair. Fingers crossed. I did find two other rattan chairs for the ridiculous price of $30 the pair but the delivery guy didn't turn up today. They'll have to wait till next week for photos. Bye all! I'm off to bed again.

I too am a thrift store addict

Jo isn't the only one that can't say no to a good bargain. I just bought my fifth couch in about 6 years. Crazy, I know. But I saw this one yesterday at an antique market and couldn't stop thinking about. I went back this afternoon, and about an hour later, it was delivered to my door. It is SO much more comfortable than the last couch, and much cuter. The colour is not my favourite, but I'll have to make it work. I'll get some pillows made (mom??) in some great colours/patterns and liven it up. (See here for details).

Couch is already cat approved.

I also got this table to house my TV and components, and got to put my coffee table back where it belongs. The table was from an antique store and was originally $285 marked down to $95. It could be a bit longer, but I had too much criteria to find the perfect table. Now I have to get the room figured out so I can find a colour to paint it. Another day, another score.
