Industrial chic

One more sleep until Christmas!! I hope you all have a wonderful holiday weekend filled with joy and laughter, lots of good food and granny naps. I'm not sure what Jo's plans are for blogging (I've missed her on MSN the last couple of days) but I'm going to go ahead and say I likely won't be blogging tomorrow or Sunday. So enjoy yourselves, but first, I'd love to show you this home I found on the website of French magazine Le Journal de la Maison. I LOVE this home. The owner seems to love natural materials and flea market finds, particularly with an industrial vibe (me too!!). I was drooling over each one of her funky light fixtures (hello Jielde!). See you all soon!!

***Update: speaking of industrial/thrift finds, check out this post on my page for my latest find!

Carl & Company

Mark Carl Ciolli is an interior designer from New York whose work I spotted in one of my new books "The Find". He seems to be such a versatile designer as his portfolio is a mix of Hollywood Regency and contemporary. The first 5 photos below are from Mark's seemingly high end and very glam 350 sq ft walk up studio apartment in Manhatten's Lower East Side. I say seemingly because Mark is a thrifter, and many items in his apartment were huge bargains. The dove in the 5th photo was $1. The art in the third photo is a print mounted within 2 flea market frames for a total of $48. The stacking tables in the 4th photo are from Target. Being a thrifter myself, I applaud Mark's skill at mixing vintage with valuable pieces.

Third World Bazaar

Yesterday I went to the Third World Bazaar - a huge barn out in Manotick where for 6 weeks in the fall they sell products from all over the world. Clothing, jewelry, housewares, carpets, Christmas decorations, furniture....and everything is reasonably priced and absolutely gorgeous. Knowing shortly I will have a new kitchen to furnish, I went a little nuts with purchases. It didn't help that they have beautiful kilims for GREAT prices. I had to bring a great big one home because the price was too good to pass up ($155) although I have no clue where it will go. I picked up some baskets, a table runner, placemats, a little teak opium table, 3 kilims and 4 kilim pillows (some went to my boyfriend's apartment). Check here for details. In the end, I'm ecstatic with my purchases. They are open one more weekend after this one so folks in Ottawa, you've got time to check it out.
