Working on a Saturday

If you have to go to work on a Saturday I couldn't think of a better place than the Birkenstock Australia HQ. Sustainability, quality, craftsmanship ... not just Birkenstock but the design by Melbourne Design Studio. Yes please! Read more about the brief and the designers' approach to the project here.

P.S. Why am I obsessed by working on a Saturday all of a sudden? I have a new business, Feast and Co. Pardon the website as it is still in development but we are all about catering and functions based in a beautiful old 1916 home. We're super busy this weekend with two weddings. Yikes! I better get off this blog and back to the bride. Hopefully photos and background story soon.

Wine Republic

It's not a house. It's not somewhere where you would live. (Well you could if wine was your thing.) I don't care. There's something about this liquor store's design that appeals to me. No jokes please about the wine doing the attracting. I love the rough, exposed brick walls, the oversized graphic, the industrial pieces used as display and yes the wine bottle chandelier. Perhaps I could drink enough to make my own. Inspiration can come from anywhere and everywhere ... even a room full of wine. Wine Republic by Red Design Group.

Style Labo

This past Friday my husband and I took a little road trip to Montréal so I could take advantage of some end of season clothing sales (I've got some photos of my scores on Instagram or my other blog), and at the end of the trip we stopped at a shop we've been scoping out online for a few years but have never managed to visit in person. Style Labo is now our favourite shop of all time. I'm not kidding. We were like kids in a candy store, drooling at every turn. This to-die-for store sells the most incredible vintage industrial finds you can imagine, along with some new items here and there. Lighting, lighting and more lighting (old and new, including my absolute favourite = Jieldé), ottomans/pillows/settees covered in vintage postal sacks of army canvas, lockers, marquee letters, signs etc. etc. I toured every inch of the warehouse space (gorg!!) taking photos while I went. But first, we couldn't leave without picking up a few little things...

The candle smells SO GOOD and was worth the semi-hefty price because it's a beautiful porcelain/ceramic vessel I can't wait to re-use.

My husband saw this massive pillow and immediately said he had to have it. I would have preferred it to be cream coloured instead of blue/grey but hey, we're trying to make it work on the living room sofa. Super comfy!

And now, welcome to Style Labo!

Updating your home for Summer

The days are getting warmer and the holiday season is just about to hot up. It's almost summer in Australia and New Zealand! Is your home looking washed out after winter? Does it need a little zhush before family and friends get together? Have no idea where to start? Luckily I had the chance to ask Korryn Bentley, homewares buyer at Freedom to help with a few timely ideas.

What are your quick and easy tips for breathing fresh life into your home for summer?

I’m a fan of overhauling my winter block out curtains with fresh white sheer curtains. It’s inexpensive, quick and easy and will make a striking impact to your room.

I’m also getting my green thumb on and doing a freshen up in the garden and repotting my planters with new colourful petunia’s. That burst of colour is the perfect ‘WELCOME HOME’ – and even if you’re just potting up some succulents, your pots can add the pop of colour – perfect for Summer.
