When I spotted this home from Spanish Architectural Digest, I nearly had a coronary. This is everything I want my new house to be, but WAY more. It is the Mexico City residence of interior designer Dirk-Jan Kinet and it is filled with glorious colours and beautiful antiques, resulting in a vibe that is MUCH more European than Mexican. I absolutely love the greys on the walls in the dining room with the punch of magenta. It is quite an amazing transformation from what it was last year when it was featured on Freunde von Freunden. I prefer this version SOOOOO much more.
It's like time has stood still. Allum House, East Killara, Sydney by John Hunt of Payne & Hunt, 1966-1968. For sale via Modern House.
One of Australia's most significant post-war houses has been listed for auction and of course I'm stalking it. Boyd Baker House, was designed by one of Australia's most significant Modernist architects, Robin Boyd in 1966. Since then it has had only two owners. Perhaps I could sell my soul to the devil to become the third. Maybe I can rob a bank before the auction at the end of the month. Perhaps I can just be content to stare at the pictures and wish its new owner well. Lucky sod. Link here while it lasts.
I never thought I would catch myself typing the words ferro-cement organic. Being of a certain age I have vague memories of chicken wire and concrete disasters lurking in under house games rooms or pseudo hippy hang outs. The type of weekend DIY that seemed like a good idea at the time until the sheer scope of the job overwhelmed the home owner. I blame it on Antoni Gaudí, Frank Lloyd Wright and Antti Lovag. The Hollander House, built in the late 60s early 70s by architect David Hollander, is no weekend hodge podge. Now recognised as a icon of Australian organic architecture its current interior designer owner has listed the house for sale with Modern House. Part Fred Flintstone, part scifi, all retrolicious you can read more of its history and design here. (Real estate listing also here while it lasts.)
