Susanne's Swedish pad

We received an email from Susanne Lindgren the other day who wanted to share with us the Stockholm home her and her family had built which happens to be for sale (see listing here). It is ideally Swedish and perfection in every way. It is staged so beautifully I can't imagine it not being snatched up immediately. The kitchen is incredible - I LOVE the black wall with black uppers. I love the concrete floors on the lower level and the whitewashed timber floors upstairs. I love all the carpets, love the bench in the hallway, and love the overall sparseness. I reeeeeeally wish I could live like that, without so much STUFF everywhere but it seems impossible. (Thank you Susanne!)

Extreme penny tiles

Mina of the blog La Résidence! wanted to share with us her newly renovated white penny tile bathroom. I don't think I've ever seen so much penny tile in my life...and I freaking LOVE it! I cannot wait to get my hands on some when I get to redo one of my bathrooms. Anyhoo, they were so clever with space planning - with alot of plumbing going on in the walls they hid it all by building a shower bench, which has all the plumbing running above and below it. They also built 3 niches to store all sorts of bathroom necessities like towels and shampoo, and a 'shower tower' which had to double as a water barrier since they did not want to add a shower curtain or glass door. It's fantastic. Kudos Mina for all the hard work that went into this FAB bathroom!

House facade help

HAPPY CANADA DAY to all of our Canadian readers! Hope you all have a fun day off work, partying it up and enjoying the festivities. I'm hoping to get out in my front yard at some point and attempt to snap a photo of the Snowbirds as they fly around the capital. (Last year I just missed them).

Today I've got a few things to blog about - the first is a request for some paint ideas. Later I have a book review, a new store to share, and a request for guest bloggers.

So to start, here is a request from Nataliya:
"A few weeks ago you did a wonderful post of someone's house exterior with reader comments on how to improve it. I was wondering if I could get so lucky as to have my house get the same royal treatment :) It's a Minto home on a Minto street and I'm looking to make it extra special and fun. I would love to paint the trim, front door, garage door and storm shutters, but not sure what colours to choose. Currently I love white, black and red. However, a red double garage rood scares me a bit! :) Any comments would be very very appreciated."

Minto is a very popular builder of suburbs here in Ottawa and this home is very typical of what you'll find here. (I grew up in a very similar home). So Nataliya needs help making her home stand out from the rest because as is typical of the burbs here where all homes are built by the same company, every house looks the same - which is one of the main reasons why I am staying out of the burbs. So if you guys have any suggestions for Nataliya, fire away.

Helena's Swedish home

Helena, of the blog På vår udde, emailed us with photo after photo of her gorgeous home on Malaren Lake, outside Vasteras in Sweden. OMG the views, and those windows are to die for! It's a little slice of heaven, and she has decorated it beautifully - simple and comfortable, perfect for a family of 5.

House of Gold

A few weeks ago Zdenka sent pictures of her adorable pups for Pets on Furniture. I loved what I saw of her Croatian home in the background. Of course I didn't go lurking straight away. No I only decided to snoop further today. I'm glad I did! Zdenka's home is amazing. Simple, stylish, fresh and ... you can stay there. It's the House of Gold and perches in a steep winding lane in the medieval village of Motovun. I'm thinking of getting together a house party. Want to come? (If only it wasn't a dream ... I'd love to visit Croatia.) If you want to see what Zdenka started with and her renovation journey visit her blog. It's not for the faint hearted. OMG what a transformation!  So much more inspiration after the jump.
