A designer's home

What would you expect from American fashion and homewares designer James Perse when it comes to his own home? The king of the minimalist (and expensive) t-shirt has taken a rather average Malibu "farmhouse" and worked his magic to create a home where old-world charm meets modern sophistication in a carefully curated mix of antiques and pieces from his own furniture collections.

Island House

Pardon me please. I know it's only Tuesday. I know I shouldn't feel the need for a virtual getaway this early in the week. I should at least make it to hump day but I can't. I wish I could escape for real to this beautiful house right on the beach. Simple luxury, an amazing location on the isolated Indonesian island of Gili Meno just a fast boat from Bali, no cares or worries except for sand between the toes. Crusoe House via The Island Houses.

Stalking an "almost" church conversion

Kim and I love a church conversion. We have shared so many over the years. This "conversion" in Melbourne's inner-city suburb of Collingwood is just a little bit different. It's a church juxtaposition, a "house/church symbiosis", a church and courtyard house Siamese twin configuration, a conversion without converting. The real estate listing calls it "Gothic Revival meets Neo-modernist design". Whatever you call it it's bloody brilliant. It's by Kister Architects and is the architects own home. Watch the video for some insight into the design and also for some great overhead shots that really make the geometry come alive. The price, like the conversion, is OTT (of course) but what else would you expect? Link here while it lasts.

Beautiful Riad

A chill wind is whistling around my house, tugging on windows and licking under doors. I'm cold and miserable and need a little lift. Time for a virtual getaway. Ah Morocco can you get anymore perfect? Sunshine sliding down smooth plaster walls, dappled shadows on plunge pools, mid century classics mixed with medina finds. A beautiful escape to the Beautiful Riad Marrakesh.

Stalking a mural

My second stalking today is in Newtown in Sydney. From the street a simple brick facade that sits comfortably beside its historic neighbours but take a look from the rear and it's another story. A striking mural on the boundary wall faces a large public park. Inside it's all comtemporay chic with a great entertaining area with pool in the backyard. Just slide back panels in the mural to take in the parkland beyond. Link here while it lasts.
