Midcentury and modern

An original 1950's post & beam house and a newly designed addition. Midcentury aesthetic married with honesty of materials. A beautiful transition between inside and out. A design that respects the site and the natural vegetation (yes that is a tree wending its way through the room). Privacy and a sense of voyeurism. Steel and wood and glass. It's love on my part. The Runyon Canyon house by Mike Jacobs Architecture.

Stalking in the tree tops

High in the tree tops is a house of pavilions poised over Pittwater, north of Sydney. Clinging to the steep slope yet planted firming by poles it is almost like living in a tree house. Reach out and touch the branches if you can. Firmly grounding it all is a stone hearth for chillier times of the year but otherwise it is fold open the walls and be at one with nature. A stunning holiday home or a lucky full time tree change. Yes it is for sale. Want to pool resources and buy that pool with me? Our own little "cottage" at Cottage Point. Link here while it lasts.

Noxon Giffen

A timeless take on modern Australian architecture by Noxon Giffen. Houses are about the human experience, how the building relates to the site and sustainability. This is contemporary architecture that is deceptively simple. Minimal at times but always at maximum stylistically. Starting with the Manning Road House (shortlisted in the 2012 Australian Interior Design Awards in the Residential Design Category) and moving on to other recent works it is easy to see why their clean simple lines are making the Australian design community sit up and take notice. P.S. Check out the serious over supply of iconic Australian midcentury furniture by Grant Featherston. Enough for a healthy deposit on a house! I'm in heaven.

Stalking a suburban resort

Want to get away from it all without leaving home? Ever craved a resort style oasis in your backyard? I think this Paddington, Sydney house might just be the answer. It feels like a tropical beach house only kilometers from the centre of Australia's biggest city. Free flowing open plan living spaces with great connection to the outdoors. Throw those doors open and welcome the sun. Cool off in the plunge pool meters from the living room. There is even a studio above the garage for your friends and family who want to check in for a break. Small space, big style. Link here while it lasts.
