Two grand old homes in Sydney, two gardens full of delight. One, an entertainer's garden, sits on the harbour's edge and has an almost Mediterranean feel with stone and whitewash. The other, a green escape, cascades down a steep slope with a hint of mysterious rainforest. Both beautiful, both inspiring, both by Bates Landscapes.
You could be excused for thinking that you had time travelled poolside to 50s Palm Springs - breezeblock walls, long sleek lounges for sunning, architectural plantings, graphic black and white palette with that oasis of blue water screams Mad Men and Sinatra. The downside of living inner city is often outdoor space is very limited. This Bondi, Sydney house has only the tiniest of backyards, more courtyard than wide open spaces. That didn't stop design and construction design-it landscapes from creating a perfectly formed oasis complete with jewel-like plunge pool. So many ideas to inspire your small space gardening.
If you look closely this Tamarama Beach apartment is actually light, bright and very white but it's the colourful pops of artwork and accessories that amp up that holiday feel. Oh and let's not forget the view. Nothing says Aussie beach getaway more than an endless ocean view and a scurry across hot asphalt to get to the sand on a summer's day.
