Stalking modern minimalism behind a Victorian facade

It must be an Australian thing but all the fun happens out the back of our houses especially in old houses with new extensions. I'm stalking a Victorian era house in a leafy street in Melbourne's Elwood. While the facade sports a cool contemporary paint job the building still remains true to its architectural past. Hints of what is to come are revealed as you walk through the front door passing the bedrooms then BAM! all minimal and scandi, edgy and modern. Link here while it lasts.

P.S. Does anyone else's inner stylist want to tidy those beds and pull the vacuum cleaner backwards and forwards evenly over the carpet?

Shadow

It's like a shadow house, a phantom building. There but not there. Starkly minimalist this modern addition to a historic home is cartoon like in its form, its all black walls and roof helping it "disappear". Housing a garage and additional living space it is connected to the existing stone building by a glass walkway allowing for a strong delineation between old and new. I couldn't think of anything better. A fine old home, originally designed by 1930s society architect Marcus Martin, beautifully renovated and extended by Melbourne-based Powell & Glenn. The best of both worlds. Deco bones and modern living filled with artwork and iconic furniture pieces.

Stalking Superman's house

It may be a little Clark Kent at the front but it's all superhero out the back. I'm stalking an 1890s weatherboard cottage in Lilyfield, Sydney with its modern extension by Nobbs Radford Architects. A a great light-filled, fun family home. Link here while it lasts.
