Jacky Winter Gardens

As cute as a button inside and out. Melbourne, Victoria, Australia guesthouse renovations and interior design by Hearth Studio. To note: I love how they painted over the trim a couple of inches in some rooms and a couple of feet above it in others. A creative and very simple idea to painting a space without really painting a space. (Photos: Sean Fennessy, and more details here).

A Muskoka cottage

The perfect getaway in the Muskokas for summer or winter, by Toronto-based interior design firm Timothy Johnson Design. A lighthearted approach was taken when renovating and decorating this quaint cottage on the water's edge. A complete overhaul of the kitchen and bath allowed for the addition of modern amenities. The rustic living areas were enhanced with plush, custom furnishings and vintage pieces to create a warm, laid-back setting.

Maison nordique-boréale

Because my trip to Mexico is not for another 3 weeks. Because I hate winter more than anything else. Because I love featuring talented Canadians. This cabin in the woods in Sainte-Adèle, Québec was designed by Appareil Architecture and is a great distraction from the current weather here in Ottawa. This home is exactly what bringing the outside in is all about. A cabin that is simple and warm and functional. What a little dreamy oasis in the country.

Chalet Rivière Verbier

I had to share another refined rustic chalet in the mountains by the incredibly talented Marianne Tiegen. Where wood walls meet Tom Dixon Beat lights and a Mies van der Rohe Barcelona stool. And YES to the wrinkled linen duvet covers. (On that note, I am desperate to find one for my king-sized bed. If anyone knows of a reasonably priced preferably Canadian source let me know in the comments!)

Chalet Vieux Valet Verbier

Last week marked 9 years of this blog's existence. It has been a long yet very fun 9 years I have to admit, but after all the hours upon hours upon HOURS of blog research it seems to take alot to REALLY get me excited about a home these days. While getting this post ready, I was so damn excited about it I wanted to crank my tunes, jump up and dance on my desk. This chalet designed by Marianne Tiegen is going on my list of top 5 favourite homes I have ever featured. It is a truly magical blend of rustic, industrial and mid-century styles....all the best rolled into one.
