A chalet with style

Winter is upon us here in these parts once again and as usual, I am freaking miserable and counting down the days until Spring arrives. Maybe I would not be so crabby if I had a gorgeous chalet such as this one (in Rougemont, Switzerland I believe) to spend my time in. I would be perched right in front of the fire drowning my frozen sorrows in a 4th glass of red wine. By Mlinaric, Henry & Zervudachi.

A cottage in a forest

I spotted this year-round cottage on Décormag yesterday and had to share because this is my dream summer getaway....except it needs to be lake-fronted. And maybe in a warmer climate, like Mexico. ;) This stunner is located in the Eastern Townships of Québec and was designed by Atelier Barda. I am dying over the black stained wood exterior, and the simplicity of the interior is all you need in a second residence. And a must in a dwelling with surroundings this beautiful - those large windows framing scenes of the forest as art. (Photos: Yves Lefebvre)

Confluence House

I have shared a few projects in the past by New York-based Incorporated Architecture & Design such as this apartment and this apartment but I also shared this really cool cabin-like simple and modern home. They have since designed another similar home but this time larger. The simplicity of the structure is absolute perfection (IMHO). Concrete floors, wood framed doors and windows and those gorgeous wood kitchen cabinets lend an organic, raw feel to the space and brings the outdoors in...with the help of some pretty awesome plants too. I would live here in a heartbeat.

Louise Jones - A Swiss chalet

Perhaps I would be more tolerant of our horrendous winters here in Ottawa if I could "slum it" in a place like this. This chalet in Switzerland is epic. It has everything you could need - including indoor pool, movie room and spa. I would be begging for a snow day so I could have an excuse not to leave. Designed by British firm Louise Jones Interiors

A bachelor's ski retreat

I would have guessed this Tahoe ski retreat was owned by bachelor - there's not an ounce of feminine in this home. Masculine all the way, with industrial touches as they always demand. ;) A floor-to-ceiling cold-rolled steel fireplace, highlighted by artist Jihoon Choi's "Pixel Deer", dominates the principal room. The seating area consists of a large leather sectional and a pair of 1960s swivel chairs by Thonet purchased by the client in Miami. Photography by Sharon Montrose and a mixed-media collage on a wood door created by Tim Weldon add a touch of whimsy. The dining area has a 7-foot recycled wood square table surrounded by classic Cassina Cab armchairs. The powder room features a live-edge floating shelf, a mirror Designed by Jacques Adnet and custom Union Square wallpaper by Crezana. The corridor leading to the bedrooms showcases 19th century albumen photographs of the Tahoe region. Each of five bedrooms was given its own personality: the burlap bedroom; the log bedroom; the gray bedroom; the antler bedroom; and the master. Designed by Antonio Martins.
