Arquitetura Paralela

I stumbled across a cool Brazilian architecture and design firm while doing some random googling the other day. Debora Racy and Nicole Sztokfisz created Arquitetura Paralela in 2007 and believe that good architecture can happen regardless of budget constraints and space. These ladies know how to have fun and be creative. I LOVE the stripe of tile in the bathroom above. Freaking genius. (Sweet tiles in the kitchen below too).

Gabriel Valdivieso

I was doing some googling for blog material the other day and ended up on the website of Brazilian interior designer Gabriel Valdivieso. Some of the spaces in his portfolio looked awfully familiar and I realized he is not only a photographer but a designer as well, responsible for the site Quarto & Sala (I've blogged a few times here, here, here and here). These photos are from his residential portfolio. Fairly simple designs but I love his sense of humour (ie. in his wallpaper selections - anatomy-type skeletons on a floral and retro flamingos).

A bit of colour goes a long way

I have been on a neutral kick lately but I do appreciate when designs incorporate a bit of rustic with splashes of colour. This 97 m² apartment in the south of São Paulo, Brazil blends both beautifully. (Via Casa.com.br)

TGIF!!!

Thank gawd it's Friday, mostly because it's a warm and sunny 3 day weekend but also because this has not been a very good week (I'm a mess physically, with allergies, back problems that had me home from work yesterday so I could attend my first physio appointment, and now thanks to all this I've got a freaking throbbing headache). I thought I'd keep things simple today with photos from Quarto & Sala, the site I like to call the Brazilian Selby. I love peeking into the homes of normal folks...there's no over-decorating or over-styling here.

Reader's home - Carolina's typography-loving apartment

Carolina had sent in an entry for a pets on furniture recently (her pooch Ella is the first pet featured here), and thought our reader's would like to have a peek into the rest of her home. Here is a bit of info: It's been 6 months since I moved and every corner in my place has been planned with love. I'm a graphic designer and a typography lover, so my home kind of portrays my personality. I live in Porto Alegre, in the south of Brazil. The apartment was a "group project" between the architects Luiza Kroeff and Claudia Neumann, who designed the furniture and me and my mom Maria Araci, who worked on the interior design. Carolina's love of typography is evident in her home, and her graphic design background too as her apartment has great punches of colour and impact with white or dark walls that make furniture and artwork pop.
