My home in a book!

Quite some time ago I was approached by the folks of the website ucinteriors.com (their German counterpart is solebich.de) if I wanted to be a part of a book they were having published on some of the homes whose photos were submitted to their community. The main idea of the book is to show real homes of real people. They kindly sent me a copy and it arrived just now. I was so excited to see my kitchen on the cover, my living room on one of the cover pages, and then SEVEN whole pages of my home! I am so honoured to be included among so many other quirky and lovely homes and I cannot wait to devour the rest of the book (which I unfortunately cannot read a word but I'm all about photos anyhow :-) ). A huge thanks to Claire and Luise!

A great book, a great store, and a great opportunity

Since I have the day off from work I thought I'd use this opportunity to get through some posts I have been wanting to include here lately that I haven't had a chance to what with wedding plans monopolizing what little spare time I have.

To start, even though Jo mentionned this book back in a WINKS post in April, I finally got my hands on a copy (gotta love snail mail from the other side of the world) and wanted to do my own plug, because it is JUST THAT GOOD. The book I speak of is Australian stylist Megan Morton's Home Love. And I have ALOT of love for this book. I have not had a chance to devour every word yet but I have devoured every photo and they are stunning. What I have managed to read of it so far is very useful tips and suggestions for creating different flavours of rooms. Megan has included alot of her own personal experiences which I think brings this book to a certain level of reality. It's definitively one of my new favourites that will sit proud on my coffee table, and I highly suggest that if you don't have a copy already, that you go find one ASAP (or try here). Oh - and Megan happened to mention our little blog on page 92. :) Here is a sneak peak...

Next order of business is a new advertiser has joined DTI, and I'm totally stoked about this one. It's a shop called Redefine Home, run by David Betz and Linsi Brownson, a home builder and interior designer by trade. They started this online shop last year,  and are proud to work with local artists and small companies, and offer products that are exclusively made for Redefine Home. They offer a bit of everything, from furniture, lighting, textiles, kitchen and bath products, art...they have it all.  I'm stoked because there are so many items they carry that I'd love to get my hands on. (Shipping is free on orders over $50 in the U.S. and I am pleased to tell you that they ship to Canada! And the UK!) Here are just a few of my favourites:

And lastly, I received an email from Greg at 2Modern who wanted to put the word out that they are looking for some new guest bloggers on the 2Modern blog. Anyone can inquire. Guest bloggers post once a week on a chosen day...topics range from modern design, architecture, furniture, lighting, etc. The bloggers are from all over the world (but posts are in English only) and from all walks of life (architects, modern connoisseurs, designers, etc.). A link to contact them if you're interested is here.

Reader request - bookshelves

Sigrid from Norway emailed with a reader request that I thought I'd tackle today, because it's an easy one. :) "I love library and rooms and walls full with bookshelves. I would be honoured if you could post some pictures of rooms and walls full with bookshelves." I would give anything to have a library, a room filled with floor to ceiling bookcases to fill with my ever-growing collection of shelter mags and books. I love to see how people cope with their own book and mag collections. Here are some rooms where large collections are easily stored away.

Another book to add to your collection

Hope you all have a warm and sunny weekend full of fun decor projects and more gardening. While you're out running errands for those projects, I highly suggest you stop at your local bookstore and grab a copy of Sixx Design's "Downtown Chic", that I mentioned in a post late last year (or online). Jo and I recently got our hands on copies and it is SO inspirational for those of us who are renovating houses on tight budgets. The book showcases seven of Robert and Cortney Novogratz's projects, from town houses in NYC, a country house in Massachusetts to a beach house in Brazil. I have a hard enough time going through renos in my house with 6 cats, and these guys did it with 6 kids. (!!!!) The photos are exceptional, as you may have noticed in posts we've published here, here and here of their work. Oh, and if you get to page 20, check out who they've got listed under blogs they frequent. :-)

A high-five for Pia

Pia's book Paris: Made by Hand appeared in my mailbox today and I had to give her props again for it's launch. It's her first book and I hope not her last! The photos are stunning and moody, and I now want to book a flight to Paris. Gorgeous! Congrats Pia!!
