A couple new books

I got my hands on a couple new books this past week that I wanted to share with you all today. This first one I LOVE. L O V E. It's written by a mother/daughter team - Suzanne McGrath is a former Style Editor and Producer at Martha Stewart Living Television and her daughter Lauren worked in the fashion features department at Teen Vogue magazine. Good Bones, Great Pieces is their first book. In this book Suzanna and Lauren discuss how they believe that every home should have a core group of seven pieces that can ive in almost any setting and will always be in style: the demilune, the dresser, the side table, the love seat, the bench, the slipper chair and the occasional chair. And with lots of fantastic photos by one of my all-time favourite photographers Lucas Allen, they give awesome examples of different uses for these pieces. It really made me think about what furniture pieces I should be investing in. You can pick up this must-have book here: Barnes & Noble, Amazon, Indigo, Powell's

A couple of new decor books

I am pretty excited to share a couple of new books with you today while I head out to the cottage to enjoy a beautiful summer day and spend time with my mom (Happy Mother's Day Mom!!).

The first one I was REALLY stoked to receive, as it was written by a fellow blogger. Maryam Montague has been living in Morocco for several years now and it is because of her and her blog MyMarrakesh.com that I have fallen in love with the country of Morocco and especially it's absolutely gorgeous interiors and architecture. The textures and colours are mesmerizing and such beautiful inspirational decor. Maryam's book, MARRAKESH BY DESIGN, (Artisan Books, May 2012), is filled with wonderful photos that she took herself (several are of her own home and boutique hotel called the Peacock Pavilions)  and gives quite an introduction to the Moroccan culture and elements of decor they are so well known for. I even busted out my vintage Moroccan wedding blanket Jo sent me as a wedding gift to use as a backdrop for the photos I took of the book. (That blanket is SO gorgeous and one of my prized possessions). I can't wait to devour every word and photo of this book - I think I'll bring it to the cottage. :) Congrats Maryam - you should be so proud of this book! P.S. Maryam's home is featured in this month's Lonny and last month's Elle Decor!

50 US Architects

We received an email about a new book that has recently been published called 50 US Architects: Residential + Planning. The author, Damir Sinovcic, sent along some info and fab-u-lous photos.

This beautifully illustrated, 11" by 11" volume presents a curated collection of exceptional residential and master planning work from leading American designers. Meticulously detailed and site-specific, the featured projects focus on sustainability, technology, and the human spirit. They reflect ideologies and philosophies that are rooted in the modernist doctrine or distilled from vernacular precedents. Each state in the country is represented with designs that are intended to showcase a sense of place through concept, craftsmanship, and material selection. Demonstrating a profound understanding of local history, natural environments, regional traits, and other site-based factors - such as climate, light, views, and topography - these projects skillfully and creatively reflect their physical and cultural milieus. While individually they express the character of a specific geographic setting or state, together they form a contemporary portrait of exemplary American residential design. The book is available at: www.50usarchitects.com

Book love

Do you love interiors books as much as I do? I LOVE INTERIORS BOOKS. Got my hands on a copy this week of More Dream Homes: 100 Inspirational Interiors by Andreas von Einsiedel and Johanna Thornycroft and I've been through it so many times it is already looking a little dog earred. From sumptuous and OTT to quirky, rustic and back to elegant this lovely book features homes unified with a traditional aesthetic but each with a different inspirational riff. It's a treasure trove of fabulous spaces. Historic gothic masterpiece, city apartment, farmhouse retreat, treehouse and more. Each project is fully illustrated with beautiful photographs by Andreas von Einsiedel with Johanna Thornycroft helping us understand just what makes each home work. You can find more information at Merrell Publishers including links to bookstores and online retailers. Don't you just love that front cover?

And just because I love it so much here is the front cover room without any the distractions.
