Drew Heath Architects

Travelling home from work today I noticed the roads were quieter. That time of the year when those that can flee the city for the summer holidays. A great Australian tradition is to escape to the beach but I'm just as much at home fleeing to the cooler hills or down to the calm lakes and rivers.

Drew Heath has designed two simple hideaways I dream of owning. I love the spartan quality of the cabin in the bush but I'm drawn to the simple lines of the house boat as well. Luxury in life isn't counted in the number of rooms and the most expensive finishes. Luxury is having an escape from the cares of the world to enjoy the simple pleasures with your friends. Drew has a passion for low impact environmental buildings He is both architect and builder. He enjoys the intimacy of the hand built and the small scale. Clean minimal lines, clever spatial planning and loads of light flooding in in unexpected ways are essential elements of the designs by Architect Prineas. Check out the unusual placement of windows that allow light in and maximise privacy as well as the clever placement of the flat screen TV on the outside of the kitchen island.

New blogs

I've been enjoying some new blogs and wanted to share. As well as being design based blogs they have something else in common. They're all written by Australians. (Well one is an Aussie living in Hong Kong but that counts.) Some of you will already enjoy dropping in on these blogs but I wanted to introduce them to the rest of you.

Felicity is an Australian living in Hong Kong. Her blog All Things Bright and Beautiful is full of eye candy. She's a talented artist as well as having a fabulous sense of style.

Apryll Annie has been blogging for a little while now. She's an interior design student from Sydney with a great eye and just starting out on her design adventures.

Peta is an Interior Stylist currently based in country NSW. When she's not writing her blog Colour and Design she works freelance for a couple of Sydney based interior magazines, consults as a pre-sale property stylist and interior decorator and she has a degree in Photography from RMIT University in Melbourne. When does she have time to blog?

Anna is another blogger from Sydney who is also studying interior design. She has just started Villa Anna full of inspiring photos and tales of her families travels.

The two sides of Angus McRitchie

Photographer Angus McRitchie understands the exuberance of colour so well. Joyous, riotous, uncontrolled colour is captured through his lens and loses none of its vibrancy in the process. But just as he has a wonderful grasp of bright colour Ritchie can capture the calm earthiness of neutrals as well. Another fabulous Australian photographer. Love this portfolio.
