Alexander Gorlin Architects

This firm has been around for 2 decades and has worked on quite a number of diverse projects. Recent projects include a loft renovation for Daniel Libeskind, 900 affordable homes in East New York, six new high schools in the Bronx, and Aqua, a 12-story condo building in Miami Beach. Their style is modern without being sterile. My favourite is the unusual shape of the kitchen island above.

Love this renovation

Behind an Edwardian facade in Richmond, Melbourne Architects EAT have designed this extraordinary renovation and extension. The design is sophisticated yet minimal reflecting a contemporary lifestyle. Light filters through strip glazing in the ceiling while black gloss floors anchor the white Edwardian jewel box. Hard concrete finishes mark the transition to the new. Love this space. Love the filmy black drapes as room divider. Love.

Architects Eat

Melbourne architectural and interior design firm Architects EAT was established in 2000 and has over 20 years combined experience. Their designs take into account what they term as the "enrichment of lifestyle" and centre on strong design aesthetics and timeless experiences. They believe that architecture must be experienced intuitively firsthand. Their approach is about the physicality and haptic (sense of touch) experience of a building and it's materials. They also maintain a strong carbon neutral ethos. Their work reflects their desire to explore the senses and design for a brighter future.

Messana O'Rorke

Jo had posted a while back about a sprinkler tank that Messana O'Rorke Architects had converted into an urban retreat. I was just perusing their website and was amazed by their work on other projects. Here's a project titled 12th Street.

Andrew Maynard

"Recently named in Wallpaper Magazine's Architects Directory, an "annual guide to the world's most innovative practices", Andrew Maynard's design practice is quickly becoming recognised as an emerging source of interest in the design community. Since Andrew Maynard Architects was established in late 2002 it has been recognised internationally in media, awards and exhibitions for its unique body of built work and its experimental conceptual design polemics." His work has been described as floaty concepts and dirty reality. Take a long hard look at the inspiring details of these spaces. The wall in the bathroom that raises and brings the outside in. The stainglass Mondrian walls and tiled bathroom. The use of linoleum to clad walls in a budget bathroom. The plywood kitchen.
