In House

Let's end the week with a trip back to Brazil and the portfolio of interior designers Karina Salgado, Andréa Bugarib and Betina Barcellos of In House. Whether a bright and airy house or a a chic apartment high in the sky their work builds from a neutral base layering with colour and texture to create warm inviting spaces that are casually elegant and fresh. Love their treatment of balconies in the high rise apartments they have designed. Wonderful use of often overlooked, valuable space creating enticing outdoor rooms.

Still stalking

I'm in St Kilda, Melbourne and I'm so attracted to the bones of this old building. A great blank canvas to create the dream apartment. A bit more layering, a touch more colour (but not too much), a rug or two to showcase the beauty of those old floors and a look that is less "home staged" and more stylin' home. Yes please! Link here while it lasts.

A renovated attic in Romania

This Bucharest attic space stayed unclaimed for many years until the owner put the project into the hands of Atelier and Jurnal de design interior. At only 50 sq m the sense of space is heightened by the angles of the ceilings and the wonderful light that floods the open plan areas. Exposed brick and the old beams provide contrast to the sleek white walls and polished floor boards. A modern space sitting comfortably in its historic shell.

The first step in any attic renovation is proper cleanup and insulation installation. This needs to be handled in a safe and non hazardous way.

A renovated apartment in Shanghai

Artekt is an architecture and design agency with offices in Paris and Shanghai. This is their renovation of a tired and typical Shanghai apartment into a stylish contemporary space. The before and afters are amazing. I'm particularly taken with the bathroom transformation and the entrance/dining bar/lightbox is a clever use of the space. Bold colour adds warmth and clean lines improve the flow of the small apartment. Great to see design from this part of the world!
