Reader request - bedside pendant lights

Finally - a reader request! It's been a while since I've had the time to do one of these posts (sorry to all those readers who have sent in requests and I haven't been able to get to them). This week's request comes from Candice: We are renovating at the moment and my husband has agreed to have bedside pendant lighting in our bedroom, so I was wondering if you had any good examples. I love rice paper lanterns but would probably go for something long and skinny rather than round. I agree that something on the slimmer side looks best but as you'll see below, there are many options. I love bedside pendant lights as they aren't really a typical option for that location.

Sidsel Z

Interior stylists are jacks (or should that be jills) of all trades. They need imagination, creativity, lashings of DIY nous. Fearless with colour, queens (or should that be kings) of quirky. Not only on trend they often set them but always they create just what their client wants which is always just what we never realised we are craving in our lives, our wardrobes and our homes.  Sidsel Zachariassen of Sidsel Z has that beautiful boho scandi vibe we can't get enough of at the moment but mixes it up with the saturated colour bursts we have come to expect from Danish styling. Her work is real and personal. I want to curl up on that porch, whip up a cook's dream in her kitchens and pad across white, white floors in her homes. Nothing is overly precious but always beautiful.

Casas del sol

Australian designer Christina Saenz de Santmaria emailed us about Casas del Sol, the tropical contemporary villas on the island of Koh Tao, Thailand that she designed and had built during the last few years. They officially opened this month and are what Christina calls 'boutique beach chic' = understated luxury within a modern tropical design that captures the sensory island experience of sea, sun and stars. The views are spectacular and I can't imagine how incredible it would be to be able to enjoy this magical country from one of her dreamy villas. *sigh*

The dark side

Cool, dark, sexy. Like a cold drink on a hot, hot day. A cave to escape the blaring sun. A shed sitting on a sunbaked Australian plain. A refuge from the harsh elements. A home. Another short listed entry in the 2011 Australian Interior Design Awards, Hill Plain House, Victoria by Wolveridge Architects. I would enter the dark side. Yes for this I would.

A cool bachelor pad

My brother-in-law Dave is always sending me links to homes that he has spotted on various websites, in the hopes that one day I'd find one worthy of blogging about. Well, I'm finally blogging one. He found the home here, but it was originally featured in New York Magazine. It's the 2100 sq ft Brooklyn bachelor pad of "Blue's Clues" star Steve Burns, designed by Mesh Architectures. I love the industrial feel, the exterior is totally rad, the catwalk on the second floor (inside and out) and the private courtyard. A home worthy of the pages of Dwell mag, if it hasn't already been featured there.
