Douglas Mackie

London based interior designer Douglas Mackie does not follow rules. In fact, it seems he likes to break them. His mostly traditional spaces are filled with antiques yet there are modern surprises in furnishings and artwork. This melange of styles keeps the spaces from being too stuffy and classic, and his selection of beautiful rich colours and textures adds to the sophisticated look. British without the boring. :)

Monday's pets on furniture

If you would like to participate in the Monday's pets on furniture series please send photos, your name, location and a brief description to kim[@]desiretoinspire[.]net. Thanks!

The chair is an Acapulco from the Bay (50% off!) and the pouf from EQ3. Rug is from RugUSA. The stool/table is antique (junk really) but I love it. Sheepskin from Iceland (brought home for me by my daughter <3 ). The Jade plant is a really big old one that I adopted after all my roommates left it behind when the house we lived in was sold, years ago. And last, but not least! Soetkin (@soetkin_cat on Instagram) is a 1 year old rescue from Toronto Cat Rescue. I love her.
- Carol (Toronto)

I love my lounge chair on my screened porch. I take many naps there while enjoying the sounds of the outdoors. Many days my pets beat me to it or they will snuggle next to me. Maud the Wheaton terrier and Stella kitty are relaxing!
- Donna (Indiana)

Still stalking

From the outside you could be forgiven for thinking I'm stalking the same house as the last post but I'm in inner city Melbourne. Carlton in fact and I've found another bold example of redesigning within the walls of an old terrace house to create a contemporary home with retractable ceiling, striking voids, rooftop entertaining space and an indoor/outdoor dining cage. Once again don't miss the video. Link here while it lasts.

Stalking in Surry Hills

I love the inner city suburbs of Sydney. Darlinghurst, Potts Point, Paddington, Redfern and the suburb that contains today's stalking victim subject, Surry Hills. You all know I love a Victorian era terrace house. I stalk enough of them here on the blog. Narrow and small, dark and dank, often difficult to live expansively in, a design challenge to update for the needs of modern living which is why I'm taken by this interesting interpretation of inside/outside, up/down living. A fab inner urban crash pad. Link here while it lasts.

P.S. The video helps explain the space much better than the photos.
