Brighton Bunker

This is what Australians would call the perfect inner city backyard. May not be big but it's packed full of family fun and guaranteed to bring out the green eyed monster in your friends. Outdoor kitchen, fireplace, AV hub to watch the cricket and portable lounge. Spa, lap pool and a plywood clad bunker with lounges, planter and recessed bar fridge for the wine and beer. There's a powder room hiding round the back and even room for the trampoline. Bring on summer! By Melbourne-based Dan Gayfer Design.

A Mediterranean style home

Brown Design Group is not just all about midcentury modern. Here is a home with a Mediterranean vibe that they designed that is really lovely. I can imagine long dinner parties being held while sitting on those really comfy looking leather dining chairs, and then wandering out into the yard listening to the fountain while polishing off that fourth glass of Malbec.

The midcentury home of a designer couple

This ranch-style home in the Hollywood Hills is an absolute dream. Owned by designers Ryan Brown and Diego Monchamp of Brown Design Group, they completely renovated the home making it much more open-plan. The new design is much more modern but they added midcentury touches to pay homage to its origins. I adore the kitchen/dining space - and whatdoyaknow, there's some tumbling block tile again! :)

Bondi barn

With its simple elegance and sense of modest luxury this family home at Bondi is just about perfect. The layering of textures, the black and white contrast, the composure, the calm, a little dash of drama. This is modern Australian at its everyday best. Fabulous interiors by Alwill with architecture by Michelle Orszaczky and landscape design by William Dangar.
