Jessica's project #2

Jessica from my previous post took on the design of her friends' home almost 2 years ago and the result is a warm, contemporary vibe that is classic and will stand the test of time. Talk about gorgeous colours! Thanks for sharing Jessica!

** I closed the comments on this post because they were no longer about Jessica's designs but became an excuse for a b*tchfest. Sorry folks, but it seems some just can't play nice, and that ruins it for everyone else.

Does this designer really deserve to be featured twice on this site?
Maybe my expectations are too high, but I'm not inspired by this at all.
I will try and throw love and amazing around a little more when a good post goes up.

I think the first room is beautiful. I love those lamps! The next two rooms have good basics, but there are a few things I saw that make them look a little undone. Maybe that's just me, or the point of view from the camera. For instance, I like the middle of the kitchen, from the yellow trim in the ceiling to the lighting and chairs. But what's around it seems a little incomplete to me. Otherwise, I think Jessica has great taste : ) I love how she mixes in glass, pottery, and items from the beach to pump up the decor : )

I don't like the orange walls. I don't like the lights on the orange walls and I don't like the stuff on the shelves on the orange walls. I don't like the rug in that room either. Sorry.

I think it's a little too much stuff..I love the rug though :)

meh. i thought the tv room was a before. go figure.

I do not see a common design theme - the design is all over the place; the living room is over-stuffed, the dining room on the other hand with its art work makes it looked unfinished and somewhat thrown together... I do not think I would use this designer if that is part of the portfolio... Sorry, but its an absolute: Never

I don't like the layout of the sofas with their backs to the doors. They are crowded with little room to walk. The room does not feel welcoming. I also have a problem with the primary focus on the TV. The room does not seem conducive to conversation or looking out a window - only to TV viewing.

The whole house is beautiful! I really love those vases!

Bless her, this girls got confidence - but not great style..... mean as it sounds... I think it's a design nightmare.

I love the living room - warm, elegant, and yet inviting. Right now it's inviting me to lay down on the sofa with a book... so that I can take a nap in the sun.

I really like the dining room ceiling and pendant lamps but the other rooms don't appeal to me at all. I especially don't like the red walls in the living room as it highlights the awkward shape of the ceiling whereas if the fireplace was a highlight color instead (all the way up) the room would benefit from the ceiling shape instead of the other way around.

I love your blog btw, I've been a long, long time lurker but don't think I've ever commented before....

Thank you to everyone for all the comments today! And thanks to Kim & Jo for posting. I appreciate both the praise and the criticism. It's nice in the blogosphere that everyone gets to have a voice :) And I will take it all to heart and hopefully come out with some even better interiors shortly. Stay tuned.

WOW! Everything looks so stunning and gorgeous!

The living room looks very comfortable, Jess and I love the light fixtures in the dining room and the vases. You have a good eye. Where did you find that sofa/bench by the window? I like that it has arms with a corner for practical leaning, but no back so you can look out the window.

I think you guys are being really tough. If you saw this in a hot magazine, you'd love it! I think it's a nice change and has a good mix of elements/periods. It's fresh, it looks like it was done with her friends/clients in mind-a very personal look. I love it.

I did not mean to be harsh. Perhaps I should have started w/the bits I like. I like the layout of the first room and the orange walls. The whole room is very warm and inviting while also being dramatic. I think the room exhibits a lot of personality.
In the TV room, I like the colors and the different textures. It is the layout in the TV room I don’t like.

11 Feb 2011 | Unregistered CommenterHelen

The reason we are being tough is one, the design is not great and two this designer claims to work for a MAJOR international design firm.
I speak up when I see good design and I speak up when I see decent/bad design.
There is a difference between your average Joe showing his design skills compared to someone who claims to work for a large international design firm.
Does that make sense to you?

LISTEN UP FOLKS. If you continue with this harsh overtone in your comments we are NEVER going to have readers submit photos of their work. SO CHILL OUT.

11 Feb 2011 | Registered CommenterKiM

So we have to love everything you post?
Kim don't you think people have opinions other than yours?

11 Feb 2011 | Unregistered CommenterTom

When did I ever say you have to love what I post or that you don't have a right to your opinion? I think your comments are rude. Besides bashing Jessica's work several times you basically said this post was bad and I take offense to that.

11 Feb 2011 | Registered CommenterKiM

Sorry to offend you, not my intention at all.

I L O V E the formal sitting room and dining room! I've seen so much mid century metal and glass on design sites - these rooms are a refreshing change with their organic materials and textures. The Asian motif is a subtle way to unify the formal and informal areas of the house without being too matchy matchy. The space looks welcoming and lived in rather than staged. Great job!

11 Feb 2011 | Unregistered CommenterGoCrimson!

I think the bursts of color here are great. I love the orange/red coral on the coffee table!

11 Feb 2011 | Unregistered CommenterShelbey

@Kim ..... I don 't think it's good to engage in a "bitch-fest" with your readers/viewers = bad vibe!

11 Feb 2011 | Unregistered CommenterPD

I like these spaces, thanks for posting! I think that these rooms are not only beautiful, but have a livable feel to them without looking overly casual or messy. Many of the rooms I see in the mags are just chock-full of overpriced items and don't look like a space that would be enjoyable to live in - or livable at all for that matter (you could never have pets or kids or brother-in-laws in them). I could see myself living in these rooms.
They may not be 'perfect' to many of the design-snobs, but that's exactly what I enjoyed about them. :)
