Jessica's project #1
Thu, 10 Feb 2011Jessica wrote us regarding 2 of her interior design projects. She works for a large design firm in LA (but is hoping to go out on her own), is a fellow blogger, and has an Etsy shop. She is quite talented, as you can see by this redo of her former home - a 600 sq. ft. co-op in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn. They put alot of hard work into this place and the result is amazing (I love the blue trimmed windows)!

Not a bad redo, they've put a lot of work into it. However, I wouldn't describe the result as "amazing". In my opinion an amazing house is a rare find!! Although.... I think it's a valiant effort. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks for the shoutot. To PD, if you'd seen the disgusting lavendar shag carpet, lavendar, gold and cream vertical blinds, and nautical themed bathroom (everyone needs 4 towel rings in a bath that serves a 600 square foot coop!), you'd call it amazing. :) Also, if you'd seen the super tight budget we did it on. Although our current house in LA is bound to be more of a show stopper.
Amazing is a very strong word for this type of design.
The curtains behind the bed do not make sense to me at all and that plastic tub under the nightstand is not acceptable not even in a teenagers room.
I'm kind of shocked that this is done by a "professional" interior designer.
Living in Los Angeles I wouldn't think someone would put all that stuff above a bed, Los Angeles is prone to earthquakes.
Sorry to be pointing out so many negatives but one must step back sometimes and say the truth.
Ooops, house isn't prone to quakes but those curtains above the bed will probably still give me nightmares.
First place was hideous, the second place is amazing! Love Prospect Heights!

Jessica, I'm saving the living room photo for future reference. It's just perfect. I can't believe that's 600 sq. ft.! Great job.

Brava, Jessica! You truly have transformed a typically "cozy" NYC space into a spacious oasis! The living room windows look enormous, and is that really the same kitchen and bath? I live in a 600 sq foot condo in Manhattan, so I'm taking note of all your storage ideas. I love the built-ins in the living room and the shelving behind the bed - such a great use of space! btw, kitty is definitely the crowning touch.
I love the "pop" of red in the living room on #2. It looks so warm and inviting and comfortable as well as chic. And #1 is an incredible redo--from blah city box to a room that looks much larger than it is. Great addition of built-in shelves around the front windows.
That is truly the best use of a mirrored wall I have ever seen. Bravo.
Eek, some of these responses are kind of harsh; I personally LOVE what was done and agree that the transformation is amazing! The amount of light that seems to just ooze in in the redo makes no sense but is still somehow there!
Just because you're a professional designer doesn't mean that you have an unlimited budget. Sometimes there are things that you just have to work with -- budget, taste preferences, electric/plumbing, building regulations, etc. You can't always go all out on everything.

Whew! You left the bathtub tile in! Its really beautiful tile, so glad you didn't take that out. :-)
