Cat #6 - Felix

Not long after I moved into my current home, around March 2008, Felix started hanging around my property. He looked very sick, and was just skin and bones. He was super friendly though and it was clear that he had a home at one point but was abandoned. After a short time of him hanging around and me feeding him, I called up Friends of Abandoned Pets and they agreed to help out getting Felix looked after at the vets, but they had no foster homes so I would have to foster him until a home was found. I agreed. At the vets he was neutered and received treatment for all sorts of things like fleas, ear mites etc., and had to be locked up in a room in my home afterward for about a month in total while he healed and we waited for test results (which were negative). While locked up, I discovered that Felix is a pee-er. He pissed all over the room - he would even jump up on my dressers and pee down the walls. Every day I would get home from work and clean up at least 3 messes. This kept up even after he was able to have free reign of the house so he was put on Chlomicalm, a drug to chill him out. That has helped immensely and he doesn't pee randomly anymore. But this meant he could not be placed on FOAP's adoption list and I had to agree to keep him. He is also no longer skin and bones. In fact, the last time I took him to the vets he weighed an astounding 20 lbs. I am pretty sure he's now about 25 lbs. He is a gorgeous cat, with amazingly thick blue/grey fur. He has quite a personality and gets along great with all the other cats and loves people. I don't mind being stuck with him. :)

This first photo is one I took before I decided to save Felix. He would curl up like that on my deck and sleep for hours.
It was heartbreaking.

The next photo is one of a few I took of Felix after he had been to the vets and was locked up in my second bedroom.

And look at him now!

I'd forgotten how tiny he was. Not anymore :) I think I like your big boys the best of all your cats.

Too cute! My son and I couldn't stop laughing at how big he got. Great photos of him! Reminds me of my Cat Fancy days when I was young...all of my friends had rock posters on their walls and I had cat posters from Cat Fancy. I especially loved the male cats...so handsome! To this day I remember this one poster of a black and white male cat with a red bow tie...I thought he was so dreamy :). Wish I could have 9 cats, but I guess 4 is enough for us for now.

Oh he's so fat! Your Felix is too cute! I have a cat I adopted a couple of months ago that started out very small and wiry and shy, but he is now very fat and extremely mischievous. Your photos of him made my morning, he's so adorable :)

I absolutely love that you take in stray cats. But I can't help but wonder how hard it is for you to clean up after seven-soon-to-be-nine cats! You're my hero.

It's VERY hard - which is why I ignore the furballs rolling around until the weekend when I actually manage to find time to clean. Which is why I prefer visitors to give me notice before they stop by - so I can at least pass the Swiffer around. :)

Aww, that's so sweet! He looks like he's really happy!

We took in a cat which turned up just under a year ago. He was obviously mistreated before he was abandoned, because he wouldn't come anywhere near us for weeks, was very mistrusting, and had a few nasty cuts (his leg was in a very bad way). We gave him food every day, gradually moving his bowl closer to the house (we have a big garden, he didn't like coming near the house), and got him to trust us enough so that we could bring him to the vets to see to his wounds and give him his jabs, and eventually he got up the nerve to come inside.

It's been almost a year now, and he is so happy. He's still nervous, and gets quite jealous of our other cats if we're giving them some attention, but he's getting better all the time.

I rescued a tiny little orange furball who was the last survivor of his feral mother's litter. She and all the others died in the woods. He was filthy and flea ridden and starving when my neighbor found him and plunked him into my hands. Fang lived for over 20 years and I will never love another cat as I loved him. Your Felix will bless you a thousand times over for your kindness, just as Fang did for me.
