I see a red door and I want it painted black
Apologies to the Rolling Stones but I have always wanted my burgundy doors to be black. Now they are. Lovely gloss black. You'll see in the post below that my office has gone gallery white but my bedroom has turned to the dark side. Black, black and more black. Walls, trims all black. The ceiling is starting white but may just go black as well. We'll wait and see on that one. Once again the ugly ceiling fan combos are going but I'm not sure what light fitting will replace it just yet. You can see the befores and my original ideas for the room here.
And here's one of the early morning light flooding into my office across the hall. Our bed is currently jammed in there along with all the other furniture. Can't wait to start putting things together at last (the distressed orange cupboard is normally to the left of the fireplace). 10 months since we moved in and finally ..... finally my "treasures" will find a proper home.

I can't wait to see it all done!!!!!!!
OMG! I've just caught up. Look how great your black doors look. You must be thrilled with the progress. THRILLED!
And yep, it shows up how blah that burgundy colour was. Burgundy should only ever be seen in a wine glass in my humble opinion. xxx
The door looks amazing!
Can't wait to see how you finish this off, so many possibilities.
I'm wondering what will hang on those soon to be beautiful black walls.
Lighting the artwork will be very important the black walls will suck up a lot of light, spot lights on artwork will make the art pop.
Even cheap plug-in can lights hidden behind furniture on the floor will shoot nice lighting up the walls.
It's going to be all about lighting in here :)
Deeply saturated wall colors will spot and stain and pit over time, but it is totally worth it. My guest bathroom is black with white trim and a tin ceiling and while I dream of painting it red, freshning up the trim and taking down the ceiling, I'm in no hurry whatsoever
Oh no!, there are two "toms" now!
I should change my name to Hollywood Tom so we don't get confused.
Love the rug too!
Two Toms?!!! Oh my god. Help me :P I have been thinking of trapeze halogen lighting in a couple of runs across the room to light the artwork. Love that whole darkened art gallery room look. I have several table lamps and a floor lamp. It is quite a large room but like all really old homes has one problem. It has only one power point in the room. We'll have to get more put in but that will be when we divide off part of the room for an ensuite. Until then it will be extension cords which will "disappear" anytime I pull out my camera to take a photo.
Thanks Kim, Anita and Bhavna!
You just want to lick it it is just so glossy and gorgeous!!
What kind of rug is that in the last picture? It's beautiful.
acpgee, it's a kilim. (jo and I are obsessed with them)
mrrrrrrrrrrooooooooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!
hello sexy bedroom!!
intellectual sexy, the best kind. love the bedroom, love the doors, LOVE the way the white lanterns look! great work has been happening :) see? the floors debacle was forever ago.
it looks gorgeous, congrats!
(i know the itch to get it done is unbearable, congrats too on the patience {so tough!})
I'm glad I was made to wait. The new old house has taught us so much over the past 10 months and by waiting we have saved money up for our renovations and not had to borrow to make improvements.
