I tumble for ya'

Right off the ladder on Saturday. Sprained wrist. Bruised arse and equally bruised pride. Looks like I'll be starting again next weekend.

FABULOUS!!!!! With a couple teal and orange accents mixed up among your other kitchen stuff, it's going to be AWESOME!

I soooo want to finish it that I'm seriously considering sending Kelvin up the ladder. The whole thing is aligned from the top so he should be able to glue straight :) I like it as is and now I'm wondering whether I should wash it with a very thinned out white or sepia or just distress it and leave it as it is. What are your thoughts guys?

Love it. I'd be inclined to leave it. Maybe apply a clear protective coat so it doesn't get damaged by moths or whatever else would make it through the flyscreens...And I had to laugh when you wrote about sending Kelvin up the ladder. Don't do it! Two of you would be out of action if he had a tumble. xx

I vote white-wash. I think it would look even more fab with some faint white streaks.

I love it as it is. I'm certainly no artist and know nothing of paint finishes but some sort of clear finish that makes it look like a painting would be fab. That big mickey mouse-looking thing by some famous artist which is featured at GOMA at the moment has the most incredible finish and looks like it is finished in layers of something matt and yummy. I'd like the finish to be soft and matt, not shiny. That's my vote even tho it makes no sense!

I love that one too Paddy. It's almost an encaustic finish. I usually build up texture in my paintings with impasto but I'm worried that any texture will just collect dust and grease on a large scale in a kitchen. Plus my husband being blind bumps into things all the time leaving dings and scratches. I need to sand it back along the edges where they touch to smooth the finish and add a bit of "age". Also to help hide any future dings. I may tea dye it just to age the book covers even more. Definitely a flat estapol finish over it to protect it.

Perhaps I should do some sample boards. Ha this is turning into a major production not just a quick fix :)

I am so jealous, I adore it so much! I think the K man might just be the person for the job but then I have seen him in action jumping onto a ute with furniture in arms. It is no exaggeration to say he is part superman, part Teddy. Hope it mends fast. Did it mean a trip to dr gorgeous, there has to be an upside. Cheers Katherine

He wasn't on Katherine! No eye candy and lots of waiting round. I missed Pia's book get together too :( It is getting better though. Maybe I can get the lower sections done this weekend. Glad you like it!

Hi Jo, hope you're feeling better. So sorry about your tumble. The things we do to make our homes beautiful. And beautiful this is looking! I absolutely love the collage wall. Love the colors.

Thanks desiree. Thanks tj. And Peggy I am feeling much better thank you. I have a lovely bruise on my hip and my hand is a bit black and blue but at least the swelling is down. I'm climbing back up that b*tch of a ladder again this weekend to finish the job :)

Good luck this weekend Jo ~ the wall looks totally fabulous.

p.s. My sister is in the process of moving to Australia (bought a house just outside of Sydney)...she's there now before the final move in August and she's been sending me photos of the creepy big(!) bats there. If she's trying to dissuade me from future visits, it's working. :)
May your neighbourhood be bat-free.

Be still my beating heart. It's sooo heavenly Jo! A tea stain is such a great idea.

I love your book cover art work so much.

Thanks AMR and Rebecca. I have bats outside my window every night. You know they eat them in the Solomon Islands. Apparently delicious. They have Lissa virus here (like rabies) but only those foolish enough to handle them run the risk. Clouds of them take off at sunset. It is quite a sight. They make a bloody mess. Shit everywhere and drop half eaten fruit and blossom. I think of them as flying racoons. Always making a mess but actually kinda cute ... at a distance.

Rebecca I knew you'd go weak at the knees when you saw this considering your book fetish :)

You're so right about the dust and grime aspect on texture. Will be interesting to see what you decide
