Stalking on a saturday

A modest, narrow cottage all dolled up and extended. A new lease on life with clever low line windows to let in the light but allow privacy ... plus you get cool glimpses of legs walking, or in my case stalking, along. Love the concrete floors, the wine storage in the galley kitchen, the little ponds at the base of the windows, the traditional facade which never lets on that something bright and shiny new is hiding just behind. You'll find the house in Northcote, Melbourne. Link here while it lasts.

P.S. Australian real estate agents please stop with the HDR photography!!!! Hmmmmmm .... deep breath. Calm now Jo :)

A home by Eon Design

I stumbled upon this fabulous home recently designed by Eon Design, an architecture and interior design firm based in Melbourne, Australia. I love the layout, with the kitchen, dining and living rooms at the back of the house overlooking the gorgeous backyard. My favourite feature is the long, low windows in the dining space. I've been dreaming of having windows like that in my next house so that all the cats can sit and look out without needing to be on my furniture. And I'd love windows that shape up close to the ceilings as well, so we get light in but keep nosy neighbours from looking in (the joys of living in the city). (Photos by Christine Wood).

Sunshine yellow

Combine a wall of bright yellow framed windows, an expansive view of a leafy green canopy and abundant light and this apartment renovation by São Paulo based AR ARQUITETOS would brighten anyone's day. A clever "wall of cubes" allows the light to penetrate further into the kitchen while providing much needed storage without heavy walls closing in the otherwise open plan public spaces. Living here would be sunshine yellow everyday!

Parisian mod

Here is another Domus Nova property. This one seems to have a Parisian vibe....and then the owners have added in some modern furnishings. I have to say the red sofa and chair and leather sectional-looking sofa are really throwing me off - I'd replace those with a large brown leather chesterfield and maybe a ratty vintage Louis XVI armchair. The windows are to die for though! A beautiful collection of traditional finds and contemporary pieces. This home offers open-plan space with original features such as stripped wood floors, high ceilings and large arch windows. Rustic furnishings including distressed dressers, original shutters and god adorned glass shades, give unparalleled character. Against a palette of neutral whites and greys, bold armchairs, books and photos inject life. The owner is obviously creative with a zest for bohemian living.

A German home (from a Croatian magazine)

Here is a peek at a home once again from Croatian magazine moja 4 zida (Thanks again Sanja!). This one is actually located in the Bavarian hills of Germany and designed by architects Ippolito Fleitz Group. The views are incredible and easily enjoyed through huge windows. (Photos: Bruno Helbling)
