Tiny house

A tiny house big on style, mighty where it counts. A small footprint, big use of re-use. Reclaiming, recycling, reinventing but definitely not rehashing. Fresh green design capped off with the freshest of new roofs, moss and green ferns. Jessica Helgerson's family home in Sauvie Island, just north of Portland, Oregon. Photography by Lincoln Barbour.

Stalking cute little white cottages ...

I know it is wrong for a woman now in her 50s (just ... just) to get all cutsie pie over little white worker's cottages but I can't help it. I always want to pinch their chubby little house cheeks and muss up their curls. Maybe because this one has a touch of gingerbread trimmings. I know I would like to drink some tea with the owners at that table up close by the chimney. Just keep that weird expanding hallway well away from me. It's like a bad trip or more like a bad camera angle. For sale here in Malvern, Melbourne while the link lasts.

White, light and dappled shade

Another day, another daydream, another dream beach house from Martín Gómez Arquitectos. The more I see of Gómez' vision for Punta del Este the more I need to move to Uruguay. If white and wood and lots of light are key prerequisites for your perfect surf side abode then this house will certainly please. Love the long shaded patios that are so prominent in Gómez' work. Perfect for long lazy alfresco living.

Reader's home - Dave's hilltop sanctuary

I have 2 readers' homes for you today, both of which happen to be for sale. This first one belongs to Dave and is located in New South Wales, Australia. I would call it a "private tree house sanctuary”. It's a 1.5- 2bedroom Bungalow-style, Art-Deco era apartment perched high on an elevated hilltop approximately 100m from Bondi Beach. It has a magical tree-scaped outlook; the home feels like your very own private retreat. It features: private timber-decked verandah nestled amongst historic trees, contemporary finishes, maintaining period detail throughout, Snow White floorboards, bathroom: (my favourite room!!) features Tuscan tiles and Brodware Neu England tapware with heated floors and towel rails, white-on-white pallet. It's gorgeous - love how bright and airy it is. The retro vibe is a bonus and I'm smitten with kitchen island and stools. (View the listing here).

Old and new

As I've stated on this blog at least a dozen times, I love a space that is a combination of old and new. Modern blending with traditional. Opposing genres is unexpected and this tension really does it for me. The apartment below is a dream. Old world architecture that is to die for, mixed with rustic, classic and modern furnishings. The resulting juxtaposition is stunning. And OMG take a close look at the detail in the bedroom ceiling. (Via Le case di Elixìr)
