Modern farmhouse

A contemporary family home with a farmhouse feel in Medina, Washington by H2 Design + Build. The house may be new but its contents have been carefully collected over time. Crisp and white but warmed by lovely wooden floors and layers of texture. Pops of colour are used sparingly for impact and personality. I love the pared back simplicity of the exterior, the white contrasting beautifully with the green of the garden.

Monday=coffee

Yes it's true. The only way I can kickstart the working week is with a very (very) large cup of coffee. I find it works even better if there is a cool, slightly industrial looking coffee house/cafe involved. I'm such a tragic that I'm known to get to a cafe very early then take the time to sit and drink it all in for the hour before work. Now if I lived in Melbourne, in the suburb of Prahran, I think I would just have perch myself on a stool in Tall Timber with its design by architectural and interior design studio Therefore, coffee on one side real newspaper on the other.

A revisit of 660 County Route 7

A couple of years ago I featured the 1850's cottage of Brooklyn design studio Workstead (I am obsessed with their lighting). It seems they have put this adorable dwelling on the market and the listing broker sent us a link. This would be my dream summer getaway.
Elegantly simple, this 1850s eyebrow colonial in Gallatin, with private river frontage on the Roeliff Jansen Kill, is truly unique. Wake up to a river view from the master bedroom and then fish, kayak, swim or canoe on the Class A trout stream right on your property. Wonderful details abound throughout this 19th Century farmhand's cottage, such as original wide plank floors, custom light fixtures, and a sunny deck right off the dining room. Mature trees, perennial plantings and a large lawn surround the house, providing both privacy and a feeling of openness. The cottage is an ideal retreat from city life, yet is close to many charming Hudson Valley towns. Conveniently located 2 hours from NYC, 5 minutes from the Taconic, and less than 25 minutes to Hudson, Millerton & Rhinebeck.

Working on a Saturday

If I was an employee at Blush Flowers in the Auckland, New Zealand suburb of Parnell I don't think I would be actually working. No, technically I'd be floating on a cloud of perfumed beauty. That's why there is no one in shot in the shop. They are floating high, just out of sight, above the photographer's head. The design is by owner and creative director Kelly Karam with key pieces by Douglas and Bec.

The Arch House

Aptly named the Arch House, Italian architecture firm A2BC has taken minimalism to a new level with the renovation of this Milan apartment. It was an operation of purification of the elements built over time that have marred the structure and the original historical characteristics of the space. This process has brought the soul of the place to light; twelve arches strung along the bearing structure that longitudinally divides the apartment in two creating three separate zones transversally: living, dining and kitchen, and bedrooms. Communication between the environments only occurs at the arched passageways. The project develops through the enhancement of these classical architectural elements that become the protagonists of the spatial scene. White as the dominant color and the concrete floor underline the intent to maintain a neutral approach in order to highlight the architecture of the space and its characteristic elements. I have a couple of archways in my home - and now I want MORE! Those concrete floors with all these cats would be awesome too.
