Vintage kitchens

Elle Decoration Sweden (photo: Petra Bindel)

I love vintage kitchens. There is something so comforting and unpretentious about them, filled with character and they look even better with scratches in the butcher block, wine stains on the counters, and pots and pans hanging from any surface with a hook. I thought I would do a round-up of vintage kitchens (love the ones with industrial touches too) in the hopes of inspiring anyone who has a vintage kitchen to maybe reconsider updating it. Because you may regret it.

Vintage on white

I am not usually a fan of white walls but in this case, when the home is filled with earthy colours and textures brought in with vintage furnishings complete with peeling paint, it works. Really really well. I love this location house available via Shoot Factory.

A glam apartment in Lisbon

This apartment is HOT! It is located in Lisbon and was designed by Cristina Jorge de Carvalho. Cristina created an elegant, glamorous and feminine space that is simply stunning, by mixing modern, mid-century vintage and classic pieces. It is eclectic but it all works so well together. My favourite touch is the fancy crystal chandelier in the modern black kitchen. Sexy!

Retro vintage

Ok, I had to share one last project by The New Design Group....mainly because this one was clear right away who inspired some of the bold decor choices. :) We wanted to instill a fun atmosphere in this beautiful townhouse by using a bold palette. To give the space a younger feel we decided to paint out most of the period features (to tone them down) and then layer styles from different eras for an eclectic and inviting look. We sourced and repurposed items from a variety of places: thrift shops, antique dealers, high street and custom made orders (the hot pink lacquered coffee table is based on an original design by Abigail Ahern). A church conversion in Byron Bay

I am taking a quick kitchen-painting break to share this beautiful church conversion in Byron Bay with you. It was featured on the lovely Citizens of the World and is the home of Amanda Callan, Andrew Morris, their son and their side project Church Farm General Store. I absolutely love this conversion. The original windows are gorgeous, the space does not read too much like a church, and they did not modernize it (which often happens and the results typically fail miserably). It is perfect. More details and photos (by Dominic Loneragan) are here
