Paris Commune

Not the 19th century radical socialist French uprising (OK I'm just showing off here). No it's a Parisian apartment by LA based design firm Commune. Open plan living unified and delineated by oak joinery and a fabulous floor tile. Very French in a very Californian way. Stylish, chic, contemporary living.

An odd house in Notting Hill

Here is another project by architect Annabel Karim Kassar I wanted to share. This time while also eclectic, it is much more....random. While I don't understand most of this, I admire the creativity. At first glance, Notting Hill House's interior is a project in which we employed an architectural reading with regard to the structure of the space. Starting at the entrance, an architectural language, almost a line, is felt and perceived. It travels through the space and guides the eye, commencing from the kohl parquet flooring of the ground floor, to the simple contour of the balustrade lining the staircase, to a single window with an intricately worked out wooden frame overlooking a spectacular London view. A closer look reveals details or elements that are characteristic of Annabel Karim Kassar’s trademark style, which is to combine different material, patterns, textures and textiles. Notting Hill house's interior is a blend of North African and modern design and is also influenced by Victorian interiors in which one can find collections of trinkets and travel items picked up on trips, the house gathers eclectic furniture pieces rendering the spaces both spectacular and bold. A penthouse in Utrecht

I can't make up my mind what I like better. The black stairs and the encaustic tiles that link the two floors? The artwork, especially the photography? The sleek, black kitchen as counterbalance to the white, bright apartment? The light flooding in from the windows? The view? Perhaps all of it! Whatever it is, it's apparent that I love this penthouse in the Dutch city of Utrecht, home to interior designer Jeroen van Zwetselaar of ZW6.

Bronte house, and my dream kitchen

Dear gawd this kitchen is IT! It makes me want to take a sledgehammer to mine. Black and brass is so sexy in any application, but in a kitchen it is such a hot combination. Especially because the designer Pip Norris was smart enough not to use black countertops. I have been living a year and a half with some type of granite/quartz black stuff and it is a freaking nightmare to keep clean. These cabinets though - WOW. And the antique finish of the faucet and bathroom fixtures is incredible. The stuff that dreams are made of. (Photos: Tom Ferguson)
