Toowong Apartment

Brisbane-based interior design firm Wrightson Stewart's latest project is an extensive interior refurbishment of an apartment in inner-city Toowong. Colour blocking gives the space a fresh, youthful feel with just a hint of 80s retro while the wood on white of the bedroom and bathroom have a scandi energy. Bespoke joinery and pieces from their WSworkshop line mean this once cookie cutter apartment now has its own unique style.

Kitchen envy

Because sometimes white subway tiles, thin marble countertops, gilded mirrors and a vintage crystal chandelier is all you need. Via JG Interiors

A kitchen by Black Lacquer Design

This stunning kitchen has totally made my day. I am often faced with frustration when my husband and I cannot pass each other in our kitchen without knocking something over/stepping on toes and this kitchen is soooo roomy. The mint green cabinet colour is adorable, and paired with that gorgeous encaustic tile floor, brass accents, double doors streaming in light, an office and bar area (what I would use it for anyway)....it has EVERYTHING. Rustico Tile

I recently found out about a great source of tile called Rustico Tile & Stone. They are a small, family-run company based in Leander, Texas (just outside of Austin). Not only are they the largest manufacturer for authentic Saltillo tile in Mexico, but they are also a leading supplier for Cement Tile and Cantera Stone. And the best part is they ship worldwide! I wanted to share some of my favourite patterns they carry and some inspirational photos of spaces with their tiles and similar ones.

I have to start with the cement tile because it is one of my favourite tiles and comes in such amazing patterns. I almost went with this type in my kitchen/foyer but in the end went with something alot smaller. I love the result but I am still dying to try some of these...maybe in my next kitchen. Their cement tile is reminiscent of older style encaustic tiles. Cement tile is available in many designs, shapes and sizes.  It is extremely durable, easy-to-maintain, and can be fully customized in colors specific to the space where it is installed.

(design in photo above by Egue Y Seta - one of my all-time favourite homes I have blogged)

I pulled out some inspirational photos we have featured previously. More reasons why these tiles are the best!

Matilda Rose Interiors

Alisha Hillery, of Matilda Rose Interiors based in NSW, Australia sent along some photos of a kitchen and bathroom renovation project she recently completed...and I love it so I absolutely had to share! Here are some details she provided: We knocked through the back of the house to build the kitchen extension and installed new windows and doors to let the space fill with natural light. We used a faux sandstone on the floor to give the feeling of warmth but without the staining issues you'd get with actual sandstone. The work surface used in the kitchen is Quantum Quartz - Statuario Quartz and the
backsplash is a mother of pearl mosaic tile. The light fixture is by Timothy Oulton from Coco Republic. The mosaic tile is soooooo gorgeous and I really like the effect of those faux sandstone tiles. And what's not to love about that graphic bathroom tile - I love that it continues up the wall. Fabulous job Alisha!
